My most contrarian behavior is that I refuse to leverage technology that only solves made up problems.

I don't need google to turn on my lights for me.

I don't need alexa to order me more tissue paper.

I don't need chatgpt to proofread my emails.

I don't need my washing machine to text me when my clothes are done.

I just don't need any of the nonsense in my life. Not only are we creating a dependency on a private corporation, but its not even dependencies that are worth while to me. I can walk over to the light switch, or click "Buy Again" on the website, or use my reading comprehension skills to ensure my email doesn't sound like most of my posts.

“Hey so let me tell you about some of the modifications I did…”

That's a great point as well. The reluctance to look inward and question their beliefs is at odds with the... dare I say.... identity politics.

The fucking zip tie holding a keyring to the steel cable....

As if the Tesla situation couldn't get dumber, the owners really bring it home.

Also.... do you think these people tell their passengers about it whenever they get into the car? Or are the owners assuming they will have the capacity to explain it in the moment of the crash/fire?

that avenue is only for people capable of self reflection.

100% agree. Most people wont look at how their position fits in with the larger picture. They are haplessly self-absorbed in their own story-line, which I can only fault them for so much, I am a miserable sad-sack because of my inability to do this.

I was like 13 when 9/11 happened and everyone including me were heavy into revenge, the military and islamophobia.

Sounds like we are around the same age and I can say that I had a very similar shortsighted worldview at the time. Especially because I grew up in a very privileged bubble with a conservative family. It wasn't really until I went to college in a major city that I started to see and experience what the world was really like, both good and bad. I became way more progressive and had my Obama arc as well. Then I had my Bernie arc, which started to really push me away from the centrist liberal ideations. My full radicalization came in 2020, COVID and the piss poor reactions/response to it is what got me to the point I'm at today. Watching as the world around me did everything it could to fake normalcy for the sake of "the economy" was extremely eye-opening and made me extremely resentful of the establishment and everyone's unfeathered support of the capitalist machine.

All that said, back to the initial response, I think at this point its very hard for the adult liberals of our generation to make the turn anymore. They have established themselves, started families, are in the middle of their careers, all within the confines of the current system. I think we are seeing them slowly become part of the "fuck you, got mine" demographic that for a long time has been reserved for boomers and genX. Not to say that's everyone, I am definitely making a few broad strokes with some of this, but by and large its what I have seen from people in my life.

I wish I could say this to people in my life without it being met with a massive sigh...

Technically nothing can be "uncooked" i dont think... lol

However, yes you are right. I don't think the political ideology of your average liberal can be redeemed at this point.

I want to print it to every printer in the building and leave it, but someone would be able to check the print server logs if they wanted to. I might still print a bunch of them at home and just leave them scattered around.

Public protest isn't a viable strategy in the west in regards to reliably extracting victories in the time span people fucking need them to happen.

This is exactly the sentiment I fail to express to my one lib friend who I talk the most politics with. They’re not a resistance lib, but they are also not a leftist. They know the system is severely broken, but are still supportive of the establishment and think it can be fixed.

I try to explain to them that I just don’t think we have adequate time left for slow progress; there are way to many immediate ramifications that will cause way too much irreversible damage by the time the slow roll of “progress” catches up. I just don’t think we can afford the slow moving Overton window that normies assume is happening. They disagree and still think change can happen by electing hundreds of AOC’s and Bernie’s as a counter to the thousands of Pelosi’s and Schumer’s.

It’s exhausting being a leftist in a world full of civility radlibs.

Fuck all the investors

Full stop, no further context needed. Fuck all the investors of everything, everywhere, forever.

I have a group of friends who have gone back to normal for the most part. Restaurants, concerts, clubs, bars, etc... One of them tested positive today and that sparked the standard slew of get well messages from the rest of them. All well and good, I'm not gonna sit here and act like we should point and laugh at the sick. However the conversation that followed didn't sit well with me.

I asked the group if they normally quarantine from the rest of their household when only one gets sick, or if they just wing it. Someone said they stop kissing and sharing food, but stay unmasked and still sleep in the same bed. They were adamant about not sleeping on their couch. (must be a huge inconvenience to sacrifice a little comfort for their health). Anyway, same person proceeds to say that it wouldn't matter that much due to incubation time. I responded anecdotally that in the past quarantining from my household while sick has worked for for us and kept the healthy people healthy. No response after that.

The conversation continues with someone else who was saying they did the same thing I did, quarantined in their office and slept on the sleeper sofa to keep their partner healthy, AND IT WORKED?!?! This person then proceeds to question how they got it in the first place because they are fully remote for work... They would understand if their partner got it because of their on-site job, but couldn't reason with how they themselves the remote worker would get it. Mind you, all these people indulge in dining indoors at restaurants and bars, going to concerts without masks, running errands without masks... So, I said just that. "Probably restaurants? Honestly anywhere public.". The conversation ended right there, no one responded to me after that.

The bright side of the whole convo was that someone did eventually chime in and say that "It's best to assume COVID when you are feeling sick, because even a cold isn't worth spreading." Only to be countered by the sick person saying, "if I would have tested positive sooner I would have been wearing a mask or cancelling appointments" Felt sick and didn't care until the 2 lines showed up on the test.

So yeah, at the end of the day vibes and treats rule the world. No one wants to be told that their incessant need for good vibes and tasty treats is what may have gotten them sick with a highly communicable disease.

It's really exhausting...

Didn’t realize how integral Hexbear was in my daily scrolling until today. Missed you all.

Not that there were a lot of people still masking anyways, but there was one person who sits next to me that was still masking until today. He just walked in bare faced and it really made my stomach sink…

Edit: came in this week and they have their mask back on… not sure why they took it off on last week, but happy to see it back on.

In response to my partner and I still not going to indoor restaurants, one of our parents said that they have seen people claiming the vaccines are the cause of the various premature deaths of otherwise healthy people. I was trying to explain that we still have concerns over long covid and the possible part it played in our auto-immune disorders ramping up. I used an example of one of our family friends dying abruptly of heart failure without any sort of sign or warning, that was met with “well I’m seeing a lot of people might think it’s actually the vaccines…. I’m done… I really am. I can’t do this shit anymore, I’m so fucking tired of defending my decisions against people who can’t fathom a life without their very specific treats and vibes. Reataurants fucking suck anyway, anything in public is probably a dogshit experience, I can’t wait to move to the woods away from all these fucks.

The pivot to video. I yearn for written tech guides or automotive process with well written instructions and detailed pictures. The fact that so much of the info once found in text is now pivoting to some chucklefuck holding his iPhone in one hand while trying to show you how to do a two handed job is extremely aggravating. Don’t even get me started on the need to sift through a 25 minute long tech video because you need to find that one step that you missed.

Video is so fucking low effort and annoying.

Dudes definitely a grindset mindset crypto type, but I can’t help but respect this grift a little bit.

Bergwall’s alleged refunding operation was fairly sophisticated. When his indictment was unsealed on November 9, it revealed he’d allegedly facilitated nearly 10,000 fraudulent returns between December 2021 and April 2022, which “resulted in more than $3.5 million in lost product and sales revenue to victim-retailers.? (More recent court filings list the total value at $5 million.) The indictment also alleged that Bergwall got high on his own supply, so to speak: He refunded a number of products for himself, including a “$41,000 Rolex President Day-Date watch, a $600 TeamGee H20 Electric Skateboard, a $350 Samsung 43-inch Smart UHD TV, and an $80 pair of Reebok shoes.? His alleged operation, called UPSNow, was run, like most refunding operations, on Telegram, where he went by the pseudonym MXB and worked alongside a number of unindicted co-conspirators. He specialized in FTID with a powerful edge: The government claims that Bergwall hacked into five employees’ back-end accounts at “a multinational shipping, receiving, and supply chain management company? confirmed by sources to be UPS.

Was talking to a friend of mine about the use of nukes and I was told about how it was the quicker way to save more lives. I’ve always heard this argument but still always believed that it was an extreme response that could have been avoided.

Am I naive in my thoughts here? What is everyone else’s interpretation of the events leading up to and the decision made to drop both bombs?

I just need to vent a little bit and get some feedback from people outside of my friends and family. They love me unconditionally and I know they are never unwilling to listen, but I feel like a broken record lately and really can't find the motivation or make it better. I've really been feeling like an insufferable burden because of my pessimism and cynicism around this topic, so I figure why not unload it on some internet strangers and see what insight I can get from some like-minded people.

I work in big corpo and really really hate it on multiple levels. Everyone around me seems to either be blissfully ignorant or they have found a way to swallow their pride and just exist. I am having a lot of trouble doing that and it makes me feel like an unappreciative shithead. I'm in a good position, in a stable company with a lot of great perks and benefits, but I'm just not happy. I hate the industry, the culture, the work itself, but the people around me have been there for 10+ years, so there must be something I'm missing. Am I wrong for not being able to suck it up and cash my check?

Really miss the days of men in power having big balls.
