Glad I made the switch back to FireFox a year or two ago. As a Dev, I was entrenched in Chrome and it wasn't an easy move but with the path Google are currently treading around ad serving, blocking the ad blocks etc. I feel I made the right choice.....

Caught by the Jaffa's

I have converted over to Linux for a huge portion of my work flow but there is still the 20% I either can't efficiently replicate or there is just not the software I need.

Where possible I choose to work outside of Microsoft, Google and Apple but to keep a roof over one's head, I must endure too.

I technically started with Steam Deck and finally took the plunge of partitioning my daily driver to install Linux Mint back a few weeks ago.

No regrets....

I'm a developer (web app predominantly ) and find I can use it for about 80% - 85% of my daily workflow. Things I miss and can't substitute are mainly around image editing / vector editing where GIMP and InkScape are just not there for the way I work.

Loving my time with it and would highly recommend anyone on the fence take the dive and give Mint a go. It's incredibly familiar the moment you boot it :)

Kudos...... It's very much appreciated and a refreshing change to not be let down by something you enjoy online.

The older I get, the more I fucking hate obnoxiously loud cars..... It was like a switch that went off in my head when I hit the 35-40yrs old mark.

Pumping base tunes from said vehicle is additional hate.

I have never understood people's lack of ability to just move on.

Don't like something, like seriously just move on, don't like a post / comment, move on rinse and repeat.

You're not going to like everything and you're not going to agree with everyone, and you know what..... That's alright, it's being human !

This is seriously impressive...... I love it! I'm the director of a design agency as my day job and work with branding often. If someone hit me this as a client refresh or new brand option, I would be pumped. It's clever, memorable, current and fresh.

I don't know if it's the look Beehaw are going for (I don't know enough about the instance :) but this is strong enough to stand as primary brand mark for sure.

Only thing I would mention (which I think I have seen on the thread) is there may be some web accessibility issues on the colour contrast side of things, I would look to touch these up if it went into production.

You may be on the product side of things, but this is legit very accomplished work!

Kudos my dude..... An epic job ;)

Completely agree..... I see so many posts with "I would like this feature from Reddit etc." But honestly, it's quite refreshing to have something different.

The API changes were just the straw that broke the camel for me as after 13 years plus on the platform, it didn't even resemble what I initially signed up for.

I legit hope Lemmy doesn't turn in to a Reddit 2.0 where every reply to question is someone trying to be a smart ass and where not conforming to the ideology of the masses gets you nuked.

I too remember the days of IRC and I remember sitting in certain channels where we would all take turns in staying silent and allowing someone on the chat to hit the record voice and play a Jazz song they loved. I would sit there all night listening to and sharing music with people from all over the world drinking beers and chatting among ourselves.

Man, the early days of work arounds and early internet I miss. Every night of surfing was seriously exciting as you never knew what you would stumble on or find. Now it's the same dozen websites over and over rinse and repeat.

Anyhow, nostalgia and gripe over..... I agree 100%.

I'm really enjoying Lemmy as is and don't want to be wishing it away any time soon !

Remember seeing this and thinking we all have that one client....

Hi guys, I have a question if you would be so kind. I'm a professional developer looking to finally make a semi break into Linux.

My daily driver is a Legion 5 / 6800H with 3070ti 32GB and I have been running Linux Mint in a virtual box now for a few weeks.

I can't make a 100% transition over to Linux due to the nature of my work but I could be running at round 80-90% of my work via a Linux OS.

With the above said, I'm finally going to install a dual boot instance today. Is Mint a good starting point? Anyone else have experience with Mint and Legion or would you recommend I start somewhere else? (I have heared many people mention POP OS).

Essentially I want something I can jump head first into and just make a start familiarising myself.

I'm trying to regain some control over my data and a jump to Lemmy and a Jump away from Windows feels like a solid start !

Thank you and keep rocking....

You can count me in that age group too.... I was there for the very first dial up, ICQ, Messenger, Kaza and the rest of it.

Shut my account on Reddit a few days back and have not been back since. Can't recall how many years I was there but it's easily 10+.

You and me both.... I have seen that place through its ups and downs. From the narwhal bacon's at midnight to Jolly Rancher, Zoop and the swamps of drogba.

I finally left my account a few days ago and haven't been back since. The place is a shell of what it used to be and it's been really very refreshing have a scout about somewhere else.

Fuck greed..... It eventually ruins everything!

I'm one of those that nuked my Reddit account too... Was a Boost user for many, many years. Tens of thousands of contributions in the way of posts and comments and this move by them was the straw that broke the camel. The place is a shell of what it was in the early days sadly. Year by year it's seemingly declined.

I'm done with it and moving on to pastures a new :)

So far, I'm really impressed with Lemmy !

Well, I'm here !

I have removed my Reddit account after 10yrs + 100k + karma and more hours invested than I would like to admit.

This time, I'm legit done with the place. I don't like where they are headed and decided to give Lemmy a go.

So far, so good :)

I got my account approved and I'm good to go. This is my first comment of many, many more to come.

Good to be here folks...
