There should be background checks for US presidents yes, but also for all congresspersons and Supreme Court Justices. All of their finances should be public information as a matter of course.

This would enable the government to make anyone they don't like criminals to keep them out of office.

There are no available technologies safer than nuclear, unless you're talking about the construction. You're literally more likely to fall and hit your head on a solar panel. Which can be serious electrical hazards for firefighters if you're ever unlucky enough to get caught in a house fire.

We are still far away from genetically designing human babies.

Actually we're not, it's just illegal.

I have Ctrl + W and Crtl + Shift + T bound to my mouse for this reason.
