Oh god, right enough, I'd forgotten about those, and that whole casino thing! God damn, I hated that movie...

No, the horses were in Rise of Skywalker.

The Last Jedi was the one with the "Can you hear me now?" gags, and Luke tossing the lightsaber away.

Scot here (Edinburgh), and I'd usually only use "Back of 4" to mean a few minutes past, maybe ten minutes at most. Same as "just after 4".

May vary though depending on where in Scotland you go :-)

Love Skydivers and RZC, both excellent episodes IMO. Never really enjoyed Yucca Flats as much though.

Skydivers is an interesting one - I actually think there's a decent enough movie in there somewhere. The plot is pretty easy to follow (despite what Frank says when introducing it!) and there's potential for a proper film there, if handled better and if they had actors do their own skydiving instead of vice versa.

It'd never get made nowadays, but I can imagine it as a mid-budget 90s action thriller or something, in the vein of Cliffhanger or Point Break or whatever.

Ha, fair enough.

If the start serving White Russians at East End, I'll be happy with that 😁

That's a pretty poor case.

It's not just Ayr United, there are a range of clubs taking part in the trial, according to this article in the Record from a month ago: https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/ayrshire/ayr-united-set-open-pop-35381813

Ayr Utd, St Mirren, Dunfermline, Arbroath, Stirling, Partick Thistle, Ross County and Queen of the South

As a Dunfermline fan myself, I really hope so - it's about time football fans stopped being treated like second class citizens.

Mid 40s here - I mostly listen to stuff I'm already familiar with (albeit a pretty wide range, or at least I think so), and/or stuff which is from the same eras/genres/etc, particularly if it's something acknowledged as influential on something else I know I like

Eg 1 - I'm a huge R.E.M. fan, and via them I discovered (some time ago, admittedly) artists like Patti Smith, the Velvet Underground, Leonard Cohen, etc.

Eg 2 - I am very much into house/techno, and have discovered so much great stuff old and new via a regular recommendations event on BlueSky (#RaveyardShift, Saturday nights from about 10pm, UK time, if anyone is interested!)

Eg 3 Although I don't do this so much any more, I found that getting Tidal to generate a radio station based on a single song I like is often a great way to discover other great music in that genre whether it's funk/soul, hip hop, post punk or whatever.

In all of the above, almost none of it is new... but it's usually new to me, and that's good enough.

I used to worry that I wasn't keeping up with new music, but after a while I realised that that's ok - there's really no need to worry about that as it's literally impossible to hear everything, so just find stuff you enjoy, let others do the same and don't worry about it.

As an aside, I'm not religious at all, but I've long had this concept of "heaven" as a place where you simply have the time and resources to experience EVERYTHING you could ever want to. Every song, every movie, every flavour, every sensation, etc.

That'd be kind of cool. Although I'm conscious that that's the Côtes du Rhône talking... 😁🍷

Plenty of superb songs use that word. Abandoning the songs altogether isn't the answer IMO. Not singing the word is a better approach than never listening to the music.

This sounds like a decent approach, although it might struggle in instances where the n word is key to a rhyme.

For example, in Nas' NY State of Mind, there's the sequence:

But just a n___a walkin' with his finger on the trigger
Make enough figures until my pockets get bigger

If I'm singing along to that, I now tend to leave a blank space rather than substitute another word. Especially because another word which rhymed could easily be mistaken for the real thing!

I would absolutely never use the word in casual speech, but there was a brief period in the past where I felt that it was more respectful to the artist/material to use the words exactly as written.

However I realised that I would only ever do that when I was alone - and thinking about why that was the case made me rethink what was really most important and stop doing even that.

BBC News - Warning after 250 million bees escape overturned truck in US

I'm currently trying to get in better shape and to that end have started dieting and cycling in my local area. For motivation, I've decided to try to 'virtually' cycle from John O'Groats (henceforth JOG) in the north of Scotland to Land's End (LE) in the south of England.

To do this, I measure how far I cycle each day (locally) and record my progress, which I then use to map where I would be on the route Google Maps recommends for cycling (I'm handwaving altitude comparisons because it's just for fun).

Ok, so - Maps says the recommended cycling route from JOG to LE is 965 miles. Fine. I've covered 21.1 miles so far (I've only just started and am not very fit).

Now, on the full 965 mile route, that 21.1 miles gets me to a small village called Haimer. However, if I ask Maps to plot me a route from JOG to Haimer, Maps says it's only 18.7 miles.

I've tried the same thing with other towns on the route, and the same is true there too - there's a roughly 10% disparity, even though the route being plotted is identical. A few yards here or there I could understand, but a 10% difference?? FFS.

This is a sort of comedy western, based around a high stakes poker game. I saw it years ago and loved it. Truth be told, I can't remember a great deal more about it, and don't want to spoil it for myself by looking it up, but I definitely remember enjoying it a lot.

I unironically LOVE the music in Mitchell, and was hoping I could find it, ideally on vinyl. But I can't find any evidence that it was ever released - anyone happen to know if it was?

I had never heard this until today, and it's an absolutely horrifying thought.

~~Josh~~ Brandon Allan will start at QB.

Packers game already looked tough, this just feels like another kick in the teeth.

Wish this season would just end tbh.

Well, that's a bit awkward...

"Coote was the video assistant referee when a challenge by the Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford on Virgil van Dijk that left the Liverpool defender with an anterior cruciate ligament injury went unpunished."

"Coote also drew the ire of Klopp as the VAR for the 1-1 draw between Liverpool and Arsenal last December after an apparent handball in the box by Martin Ødegaard did not lead to a penalty."

Per this thread, I'm wondering if it might be possible to create feeds of favourited people or communities.

I guess this would be similar to how multireddits worked and since that's not available on Lemmy, this might not be either. But maybe some smart person out there knows of a way.

It's not even me that wants to do it, but I'm invested in an answer now! :-)

He made a huge mistake.

Returning to practice a month and a half after getting shot? Goddamn...
