Well, guess I don't have one then

I'm pretty sure I have a yahoo account rolling around somewhere...

and the times, they are a-change'n

yeah it is, also a west coast engineer, but there's also nuance. There's definitely a difference between HR telling you the corporate policies and then there's going to your VP and telling them their pet product may have ethical ramifications. There's a lot of rug sweeping if a project is important.

and may he keep doing that while we all vote for Kamala

Yeah not an easy place as a parent there. On one hand you want them to do what they enjoy doing, they should get whatever degree they want. On the other, they have never experience the real world and have no idea what the job market is like - and you don't want them to leave college with a piece of paper that's worthless either.

To put him in that position in the first place though....

These are the things that get programs like ours shut down. Someone streams obviously copyrighted content, just opening the door for Hollywood to start lawsuits against owncast.

A wise mentor told me something after I left school that I wish I knew before.

Major what will get you a job, Minor in what you love to do.

It makes so much sense looking back. I personally don't regret mine, but I do wish I would have done a minor in something creative, or history, or sociology, or something fun. Instead all of my work was for my major, and it basically made it straight sciences.

For my creative friends, I do think this would have helped too. Journalism is going to get you barely anything out of college, same thing with many art degrees. It's not how I would have built the world, but it's the world we have. However, that doesn't mean don't do it, but maybe go for web design with your true passion as a minor. Maybe major in accounting if you're good with numbers and minor in journalism, then go make a ton of money at one of the big outlets.

I just wish I would have known then, that it's not one or the other, but you can have variety.

Professional sociologists, academics, and literal computer scientists who study AI: Hey we have a huge bias problem, and we haven't really solved that yet. There will be huge ramifications if people blindly use AI

Tech bros: Lol ship it

Personally why I don't pay for ultra. He can come and go as he pleases, but if I payed for ultra I'd expect more regular updates. He doesn't want to, that's fine, but I don't pay for that.

I purchased the Pro version, ad free, and I'm happy with it. Same as what I had with Reddit, performs the same for me, and that's all I wanted.

I think a great example is OnlyFans. Pornography is close to full sex work, so it's a fair comparison. Here was a field that was dominated by predatory companies and people in the worst places. Actors and Actresses frequently talked about how they were abused, pushed beyond what they thought was acceptable, underpaid, hurt, raped, and honestly still worse.

Enter OnlyFans, a more legitimate way for workers to create their own content, their own pricing, set their own rules and their own boundaries. By legitimizing pornography and pornographic actors it made the entire thing safer for the workers themselves.

It's natural that sex work would follow this. It's wildly known that sex work is not a safe business, and it's extremely predatory. Taking our opinions out of it completely, if the options are A) let the extremely terrible and predatory underground business continue as it has or B) legitimize the business, add protections, and allow them to set their own rules - well then, isn't the moral option obvious?

After a brief haitus I'm back in the factory! Currently working on our first big nuclear power plant again, and the resources needed for it. Today will probably be building a new quickwire factory to help that, and finishing automating turbomotors.

Shameless self promotion, you can watch (and subscribe on the fediverse) here: Owncast Link

Not that I use them anymore anyway, cancelling my old account, but name and shame any companies who conveniently can't support their free base. Also - it's VNC. It's a protocol. There's a dozen free clients out there.

Forgive the hastily made meme. All too common with us engineers.
