Thank you for the advice about the copy, that could have been annoying later!

Ok so running dbus-run-session niri --session seems to successfully start niri with waybar. Now I just need to figure out how to get that same thing working with startup. Is there somewhere in void I can configure how dbus launches niri?

Just ran niri --session 2> niri.log and checked the output and it throws an error:

dbus-update-activation-environment: error: unable to connect to D-Bus: Unable to autolaunch a dbus-daemon without a $DISPLAY for X11

Thank you! I have in my niri config:

spawn-at-startup "waybar"

My config is is just the default given https://github.com/YaLTeR/niri/blob/main/resources/default-config.kdl

Might you know where there may be logs I can check for the service?

Hey, I am trying to revive an old surface laptop with void linux, so far it hasn't been too bad. I decided to try and go with wayland and niri for the desktop environment with lightdm. It is all kind of working except for waybar which I can't seem to get going.

It does not launch on startup, I can run dbus-launch waybar from the terminal and it kind of works (with a fair few warnings). But it does show at the top of the screen! Some errors from running it like this include:

[error] media stopped unexpectedly, is it endless?
...
[error] Failed to query power-profiles-daemon via dbus

If anyone has suggestions would love to hear them, included is basically everything I have installed so far because I did a chroot install for LUKS.

- Waybar
- base-devel
- base-system
- chrony
- cryptsetup
- elogind
- firefox
- font-firacode
- fuzzel
- git
- grub-x86_64-efi
- intel-video-accel
- kitty
- lightdm
- lvm2-2
- mako
- mesa-dri
- mesa-vulkan-intel
- mutter
- niri
- obfs4proxy
- openssl-devel
- pipewire
- plymouth
- swaybg
- swaylock
- tor
- vulkan-loader
- wget
- xorg-minimal
- xwayland-satellite

EDIT: Found a solution by editing /usr/share/wayland-sessions/niri.desktop and changing

Exec=/usr/bin/niri --session

to

Exec=dbus-run-session /usr/bin/niri --session

Just wanted to come back here and say that I have been using this recipe for a week now and it's pretty good! Unfortunately I don't have a cheese cloth, so I have just been using my french press filter. But still, since I don't mind the bits that make it through it works for me! The only thing is I may make it a little stronger, but thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

I can try move it to feddit.uk if preferred

I only made it there bc I didn't want to make a new Lemmy user on a diff instance and this was my default account. Is it important? Surely this is the strength of federation

Saw this shared on the reddit group, it is an online poll where you can contribute and vote on name suggestions anonymously. Good way to get ideas for names if you haven't submitted one yet.

I couldn't find a lemmy community for your party after having a search around, so figured why not make one!

Thank, I edited the post, sorry for the dodgy link!

I made a group on SimpleX. In case you aren't aware SimpleX is one of the the most secure messaging platforms because it takes the secure encryption of Signal, but removes the requirement for identification. This improves the repudiation ability, and because of its federated design it is extremely hard to suppress. Although I guess on lemmy I'm preaching to the choir. As a digital privacy nerd I figured it would be important for the new party to have a secure place to chat that isn't at the whims of Meta.

As usual, this is unofficial and I am very new to political organising, so happy to take suggestions. Just wanted to contribute the way I know how :)

I'll let you know in approx 16hrs

Prepared my first batch of cold brew today, (32g ground coffee, 500ml water) and staring at it I can't help wondering what the difference is between this and leaving a brewed pot of coffee to sit for a day is? Could someone explain to me what makes cold brew special?

(Followed this guide btw)
