Hey all, the first patch for Bean is rolling out now. Here’s what’s changed:

• Added new “Block” icon pack.
• Fixed issue with composer on some devices.
• Fixed issue with some links to communities.
• Fixed issue that caused accent colour not to affect the comment indicators.
• Fixed issue with opening and collapsing spoilers.
• Fixed links not showing on posts with image galleries.
• Fixed posts with one image in the body not displaying.
• Fixed ellipsis showing when it wasn’t needed.
• Improved spoiler parsing.
• Fixed scrolling on the comment composer.

Bean for Lemmy is now available on the App Store for everyone to download!

The app is free to use with a "Pro" plan that gives you access to some premium features like push notifications and multiple accounts, as well as a bunch of customisation options with more themes and app icons available.

Thank you to everyone who tested the app over the last month. I'm really happy with what I've made in a short period of time but… This is just the beginning and I have so much more planned including mod tools, kbin supported more!

I'll be submitting Bean to the App Store today and have finalised the pricing for Bean Pro launch.

Bean Pro is completely optional and gives you access to the following:

• Multiple accounts
• Push notifications
• Grouped communities
• Premium themes
• Accent colour options
• Comment themes
• Custom app icons
• More font options

Pricing will be as follows:

• $1.99 / month
• $14.99 / year
• $49.99 / lifetime with a discount to $29.99 for the first week

I know pricing is difficult and subscription fatigue is a real thing but hopefully I've got a good balance of pricing and features with much more planned including mod tools, widgets, and more customisation options.

Hey Beanies! 👋

First of all, thank you so much for your help testing Bean, ironing out bugs, suggesting features, and encouraging me to work on this app. It’s been a blast so far and I look forward to working on Bean for a long time.

I’m happy with where Bean is and I’ll be pushing it to the App Store this week. There are just a couple of things I need to finalise first, like the ability to block users and editing Groups.

I’ve also decided to go down the “Pro” plan route for monetisation. Bean will be free to download and use, and the paid plan will unlock additional themes, icons, and some premium features (like push notifications).

Pricing will include monthly, annual, and lifetime options.

Expect to see Bean Pro pop up in a build in the coming days and I hope you’ll all support this decision. I’ve put a lot of time into Bean and have taken time away from my day job to work on it. Hopefully this monetisation route will enable me to continue to dedicate a lot of time each month as there is so much more I want to do.

I may re-write this entirely soon!

Update: Definitely re-writing this. It’s unreliable af at the moment.

Update 2: I’ve rewritten the notification server so it should be much more reliable.

The APNs server is setup! I’ll be getting this on a domain tomorrow or over the weekend and adding notification support in an update soon.

As Lemmy doesn’t have a streaming service, I’ll need to poll the servers every 60 - 300 seconds depending on rate limits. We shall see how it goes! 😊

I’m trying to gauge interest in Bean on iPad. Who here is using it there?
