What font are you using for the clock/taskbar? Looks nice! I’ll have to poke around KDE for that taskbar too, it automatically gave me the icon only version and idk if I like it.

I’d think about it at a high level and then get more granular. What are your favorite riced screenshots? What parts of them particularly appeal to you? On the other hand, are there things about your setup that bother you? Then, take what you like and don’t like and let that guide you in customization.

I am pretty opinionated, so I care about changing little things. Examples of little things I tweaked when installing KDE recently:

  • made the digital clock display on one line instead of two
  • removed blur from lockscreen
  • hid user info + switch user options from lockscreen

For me the rest of the visual adjustments came from picking color schemes, fonts, icons, and wallpapers I like.

Are you interested in slightly more fantastical yet still clandestine agencies? You can’t go wrong with Robin Sloan’s Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore! Erin Morgenstern’s The Starless Sea also gives me these vibes but it’s less heavy on the secret society bits.

Yup, I loved not having the weight of glasses on my face with contacts, but every kind I’ve tried had led to dry eyes at the end of the day and that’s super unpleasant to me, so glasses it is.

That’s an awesome storage solution! I’ve never really thought I needed a 3D printer but custom drawer organization makes it awfully tempting…

Ooo, nice! It’s cool to see tooling has improved a lot since I last modded Skyrim.

I primarily sort by New, but there’s actually so much new content lately that I miss things that way. Memmy added Top 6 Hours, which I’m also using now - I like it better than Top Day, as it keeps me from seeing top posts I already saw in the morning when I browse at night, and vice versa.

When I used Reddit, I primarily visited subreddits individually - I might start doing that for the smaller lemmy communities that I want to make sure I don’t miss any posts on, too.

this game? Sounds like a super interesting puzzle game! I’ll have to check it out. :)

Yeah after some googling I’m kinda thinking this is a fake screenshot, idk

Damn, never seen that before. Is it a windows 11 thing? It’s looking more and more like I’ll have to move to linux on my desktop, I guess.

Edit: hard to find a source for the image; I assume if it was real there’d be a lot more reports of this online but I’m not seeing those.

Interesting. I wonder if it’s worth putting a Faraday cage around a home NAS – but it sounds like the electrical surge from it being plugged in might fry it as well.
