To be fair, he didn't pay for the crown jewels himself, so its not like he had the money to buy them -- rather, they were stolen.
What I find suspect is he didn't even use the tool himself. Someone else did and shared output with him, so its hard to know how it was used and how much time they really spent with it.
I am European and growing up I pooped 7 days a week. When I spent some time in the US, it dropped to 2 times a week. Must be something in the water...
