Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

“You still have a minute amount of wealth I need to extract! You’re not broke enough yet!”

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 13 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Donald Trump's the kinda guy who considers World Hunger over because he just had a Big Mac. It's not that he's ignorant to other people's suffering, he just doesn't give a shit.

[–] Decq@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago

Oh he's also very ignorant of it. But that's because he doesn't considers those people to be people. So he doesn't give it a thought

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

is he gonna pay off everyones mortgages and credit balance? /doubt

[–] Asfalttikyntaja@sopuli.xyz 12 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Americans: “we are broke.”

Trump: “no, I am not.”

[–] CaliforniaSober@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

This right here. If he personally doesn’t feel it, then you don’t have it.

[–] Widdershins@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

When you put it that way we as Americans collectively shit our pants every day.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 8 points 4 hours ago

he will do anything to not face the music of epstein files, even if america is down in the dumps.

[–] ViceroTempus@lemmy.world 13 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

We don't have to be... We could just start taking out Billionaires and taking their wealth and assets through physical force. It certainly looks like a more attractive option by the day to me.

[–] amniote@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

The US is a financial sovereign. It has the monopoly over its currency: You don't need the rich ! Govments within a financial sovereign can decide/agree in congress to pay for things they want with the only limit being that the thing/service is available in that currency. It's called MMT, as american as apple pie, and no MMT is not communist.

Why do the rich hate MMT? Because they get paid risk free interest by offering the guvment their money.

[–] teelin134@programming.dev 18 points 11 hours ago (4 children)

It's worse than that. He doesn't care if you're broke or not.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 6 points 4 hours ago

it will never get reported on fox, or any right wing media, sine the inbreds/voters will never hear of it.

[–] Zink@programming.dev 5 points 8 hours ago

I think his internal answer is "it doesn't matter" but the narcissism gives him just enough energy to continue to gaslight, obstruct, and project to keep the attention flowing.

[–] smeenz@lemmy.nz 2 points 9 hours ago

He cares superficially if people in general are broke, because then be can't grift them as easily, but he doesn't give a rat's ass about individuals

[–] orbitz@lemmy.ca 2 points 10 hours ago

It's worse than that, no one (well that he doesn't hang with) are even people to Trump. They're devices to toy with and to his delight and give him power over a soon to be known as an ex great natiion. We can quibble about the great part but no denying they were a respected entity, now they're a laughing stock. Least they paid lip service to being better before.

[–] thatradomguy@lemmy.world 7 points 11 hours ago

Of course he's not broke. He's getting paid from our taxes. Mfer

[–] newthrowaway20@lemmy.world 19 points 14 hours ago

Trump: you're not broke enough. Not yet.

[–] ALilOff@lemmy.world 10 points 13 hours ago

Slight correction: We’re “Broken”

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 37 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

Overheard an argument at a bar the other day and the Trumpie had the dumbest retorts.

"Gas prices are up" -> "But they'd be worse under Biden"

"Grocery prices aren't coming down" -> "Yes they are, they talk about it [on Fox News] all the time"

"ICE is terrorizing communities" -> "Fake news"

It just went on and on and on and I always the former person for keeping their cool but the trumpie is an absolute fucking moron.

[–] bufalo1973@piefed.social 2 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

You can answer back in something like:

"You're a black trans-woman"

"I'm not. I'm a white guy"

"You've deluded yourself"

[–] Eezyville@sh.itjust.works 16 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

I wished they would live in their own reality and not effect the rest of us. I would call them skitzo but that may be disrespectful to the people actually suffering that condition.

[–] reptar@lemmy.world 5 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

My brother was schizo and despised Trump. Glad he didn't have to see him reelected.

He heard all sorts of shit, but never any thing like this vile dribble

E: somewhat important context - conservative evangelical upbringing for us

[–] LavaPlanet@sh.itjust.works 9 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

More cult. Cults are literally brainwashing. The TV brain washes you into their cult. If you had no other source, you could imagine how people are sucked in. Leaving cults takes deep deprogramming. I don't wonder if you pretended to be interested and asked them to show you how all they think is true, as if they were winning you over.

Eta: disclaimer, I don't in any way think that excuses their behaviour.

[–] Lydon_Feen@lemmy.world 40 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

Americans: We're broke.

Trump: No, I'm not.

[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 7 points 11 hours ago

We said Americans, not Russian plants.

[–] vapordays@leminal.space 17 points 14 hours ago

This is literally what's going on in his brain

We live in a company town now. Every cent that comes in goes right back out. No savings. No retirement. Our paychecks are picked apart by fees, middlemen, subscriptions to things we used to own, corporations forcing us into choose to pay for everything or figuratively live in a cave disconnected from society. CoL and inflation increases that pay never keeps up with, working more hours, harder, with less people, for stagnant pay, and never getting a break or vacation.

Broke doesn’t mean living in a box under a bridge. You can still have the trappings of modern life, but be a complete slave to the grind with no end in sight.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 16 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

St Peter don't you call me, 'cause I can't go.

I owe my soul to the company store.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 4 points 11 hours ago

History repeats.

[–] Blackout@fedia.io 40 points 19 hours ago (3 children)

Richest country in the world. Sure don't feel like it when you look at our: infrastructure, schools, healthcare, public transportation, etc

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 4 hours ago

it all goes to defense budget, by extension also israel defense.

[–] dellish@lemmy.world 7 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

Which part of the USA's enormous debt makes it the richest country? They're paying $2b per day just on interest repayments and have a national debt of over $30 trillion. At present the debt far exceeds GDP so I would say the USA is broke.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 4 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

Richest country in the world turns out to mean that a burger and beer plus tax and tip is 50 bucks. But our education, health care and infrastructure is a global embarrasment. And we are the ones driving the equivalent of ladas now. Russians now drive posh chinese cars, which we dont sell here because itd destroy our domestic market overnight. Its all a big joke.

What is the meaning of "the richest country in the world," anyways? Highest digital numbers in bank? The phrase has always been so deceptive

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 7 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Aircraft carriers and nukes, of course! Yay. So much "winning" for you and me.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 4 hours ago

also lots of BILLIONAIRES, and hundred millionaires, with thier wealthy enclaves.

[–] WhoIzDisIz@lemmy.today 70 points 21 hours ago

Donald Trump and the Republicans are insisting the economy is great and unhappy Americans are deluded. Just like Democrats under Joe Biden, they’re lying to themselves and everyone else — and will eventually pay the price.

Not until the rest of us have paid way more than they EVER will.

[–] theacharnian@lemmy.ca 20 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I remember reading somewhere how part of why Yugoslavia collapsed was because the high ups in the communist party knew about a whole lot of problems but they chose to do nothing to not trouble the old man Tito, so things festered.

[–] tacoplease@lemmy.world 5 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Balkanization of America coming up?

[–] AlternateHuman02@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

I kind of really hope this happens. We could be a federation like Europe and probably get along much better if local regions could do what they want. Though I don't have much hope for quality of life for the southern regions.

[–] Jhex@lemmy.world 57 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

lucky for the republicans, the American people will just bow in silence and wait for the non existent democracy to save them

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 6 points 4 hours ago

they actually believe it will be stopped in the adminstration, just like his 1st. this time around DEMs have no control over the govt, plus the old guard dems are very complicit to this adminstration.

Because he only considers the ruling class real Americans. So yes, economy is doing great for them. It's K shaped.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 5 points 4 hours ago

hes emulated putins inner circles, practically the same mode of govt.

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 31 points 21 hours ago
