I just made an account on there and was getting ready to settle in. We can’t have anything nice…. I guess I’ll just stick to the fediverse.
I am still learning what the fediverse even is truthfully. I thought Bluesky was part of the fediverse. Man.
Oh God no! I'm sorry.
Ass ass inate. Believe it! I need sleep.
A weevil. They're so cute. And they can sneak around.....I guess if anything happened to them they could magically regenerate. Or a kitty. But might I also suggest, an elf owl? They're the smallest owl species. :D
I have this black cat purse, but the strap broke, it's just cheap leather material from a street market, so now I use it to store hair ties and makeup brushes. I love this purse but the cat also sometimes genuinely feels like it has a presence and is staring at me. The second witchiest thing I owned was a black dress from freepeople. I loved it so much but it got wrecked in the washing machine because I left a tissue on one of the pockets. Rookie error. I'd like to learn how to sew and try to replicate another dress like that one.
Support groups are something I want to see grow on Lemmy. Anything from abuse, to mental health to chronic illness or addictions. There should also be a way to protect those communities from ableist trolls, a theoretical door so that not just anyone can see the feed. I think it's important to have that door, because there are people who no matter what you say, they will never have empathy or understanding for people going through those challenges. They will always find a way to convince themselves the person isn't worthy of empathy or respect. They will try to do harm, and so they should just be blocked out. I've sadly already encountered a bit of that on Lemmy.
But I will be honest, I don't have a plan of action laid out, I'm just throwing it out there. We saw some major platforms become null and unsafe. We should work to reestablish a safe space for folks dealing with those problems. It's even more important now while we're going through this breath-takingly crappy year. I myself do not have the skills or energy to moderate one of these groups. It would just be good to work toward having more of those here eventually.
Edit: It would also be cool if we could be more thorough about keeping out troll communities, prevent or discourage them from taking root here. For example fakedisordercringe on Reddit was a vile place. The redpill communities were bad too.
I'm fucking speechless.
Holy crap, I'm sorry if I sound over-enthused but that is genuinely awesome to hear. I didn't know this either. I'm learning a ton here. I'm saving this information. This is something I would absolutely love to do.
I wanted a word processor so badly that I got an alphasmart neo word processor 2 this year. It's great. However, I would prefer if I could write on something more familiar. Turning a laptop into a writer's deck would be amazing.
I've watched videos of people build their own writer's decks. They were small computers though but it was really cool. And I have also seen a video where a guy took an old macbook and overhauled it so that it was all new hardware and only ran linux. It was incredible stuff. I want to try that myself as I do also have an old macbook just sitting untouched and I actually kind of love that old thing. It was great and seems like a shame to have to toss it. So it's definitely something I dream of doing one day. Only thing is I cannot for the life of me access tools to open up a computer. I tried looking on ifixit but they don't have all the tools needed. So, it will be a slow journey to get to that but I look forward to tinkering.
Thank you so much for the tip about Nvidia. I didn't know this. And I'm really glad to hear Mint is so easy! That's perfect. I have a fear of pressing the wrong button and accidentally breaking something. I'm sure that's a common anxiety for beginners. So Mint seems like a perfect starter then. Yay! Yes, it's true, I'm not much of a gamer. I wish I could play games more. There's a ton from different genres that intrigue me and I love watching playthroughs and reviews, but it's just not feasible for me right now. In the future hopefully.
I will most certainly check in online if ever an issue crops up. Everyone here has been really helpful and I'm deeply grateful. Thank you so much! :)
Hehehe my favourite. :)
