I shall use this to explain subclassing going forward.

So I've been looking for a nice relaxing and/or easy game. Placid Plastic Duck simulator is now on sale. Steam says it's Playable, but it isn't listed as having controller support. Does anybody have experience with this game on Deck? Does it require keyboard mapping? Is there a community layout?

Other not really game specific questions I wouldn't mind an answer for:

  • Is there a way to check for community layouts for a game without owning it?
  • Does buying a game that doesn't have a demo and then refunding it because its compatibility isn't great count against me in some way? The refunds policy seems to mention something about abuse, but without a demo I have no other way of knowing.
  • Any recommendations for relaxing games that are great on Deck? Journey was okay, but didn't capture my attention. I loved RiME.

Best wishes and thanks in advance!

You keep saying this but haven't posted logs showing their side of the conversation. I've had my difficulties reaching someone who wasn't just copy and pasting prewritten responses from a script, but the way you're avoiding answering peoples questions is suspicious.

Apple will sell you a laptop with dead pixels on the screen and refuse to replace it unless a certain minimum number are dead. I was furious.

Honest question, is there a good default config available somewhere or is what apt install fail2ban does good to go? All the tutorials I’ve found have left it to the reader to configure their own rules.

Tutorials on how to use and install the legal side of emulators are allowed, it’s when you encroach on copyright that things become a problem. Piracy is not allowed.

Do not post links to sources of copyrighted materials.

Pictures of your Deck running software never published to PC are questionable. My biggest problem with /r/steamdeck is how it made me feel like I joined a bad faith community by buying the device.

Catherine Ryan is pretty nice, but I saw someone remind me of Colin Mochrie.

I mostly use it to set up Non-Steam Games like Diablo. Once set up, I go back to gaming mode. I once briefly considered using it to resolve a server issue for a business client (by using SSH which for who knows why is expensive as fuck on iPad), but decided against it -- I was home to relax not work.

When I first got my Deck I installed several emulators for nostalgia (of course for games I own legitimate versions of), but after recently re-imaging my Deck I haven't had the urge to do that again. I got what I needed, and may do it again some day; but for now I'm satisfied by Steam games and Diablo.

I've played games on both Switch and Steam Deck, and older games the Steam Deck blows the Switch out of the water at 1920x1080. Examples include Avicii Invector, Skyrim, and Yooka-Laylee.

It's games like Diablo and Metal Hellsinger that make me concerned about Hogwarts Legacy and LEGO 2K Drive.

A triple-A game I've been eyeing is finally down to a reasonable price on a third party website.

But after seeing how much better Diablo IV performs on my friend's Xbox, I am really disappointed in myself for buying the PC version to play on my Steam Deck. I play mostly docked and connected to a TV, so the visual experience is something I value.

Diablo IV isn't the first game I've regret purchasing on PC instead of Xbox. For older games, the Steam Deck is great; but it seems like modern games I really need to be wary of. You know what they say, fool me once, strike one, fool me twice... strike... three.

Has anyone else had a similar experience, wishing they'd spent the money on another platform? Is there a rule of thumb you follow on what to purchase, where?

Would it be okay to list the specific games I'm wondering about for input? I love my Steam Deck; but I'd rather not feel platform envy again.

Google's result was a Reddit post, so it is best to have a copy of this information in lemmy.

Thanks for your help!

I've been instructed by Valve to re-image my deck (in regards to my fans running while idling issue).

Does anyone know where custom controller layouts are stored?

I can reinstall most things, but I have a number of custom layouts that I'd like to keep without having to reconfigure them all.

Today I pulled my steam deck out of my backpack to find that it ate 15% of the battery sitting in the bag. I swear I heard the fan running in the bag.

Now, the fan is just running all the time whether I'm doing anything or not. This is incredibly suspicious battery eating behavior that I don't recall experiencing before. I've checked what's running with top and the Steam instance and two web helpers seem to constantly be eating up 30% of the CPU.

Has anyone experienced this before? Any tips or ideas on how to debug? I don't think the fan should be running all the time, just sitting on the main menu doing absolutely nothing.

The Deck has been sitting here on, doing nothing on the home screen for about an hour, and 20% of the battery has been used. This thing would never last 48 hours doing absolutely nothing.
