I had a relationship with a German some years ago. I was told that there was some kind of collective punishment (my words) still going on because of WW2. That Germany still felt responsible, and pushed that responsibility onto the next generation, a generation with no relation to WW2 other than being born in Germany.

Why can't the older generation let the next generation move on without inheriting their burden?

Don't forget to put back the hammer.

Never used it, only used Debian based versions. I tried my hand at Fedora and OpenSUSE but no apt made me change back. Not because it better (or worse, for all I know), just that I know apt and didn't want to take the time to learn rpm etc.

I remember the Quantum release. They remade how the browser handled tabs, and with the new release you could handle (almost) unlimited number of tabs. I tried this buy opening as many tabs as I could, it worked flawlessly. I can't even remember how it was before that, except that it was RAM intensive.

I have two applications that does not have a replacement for Linux, running Windows as a virtual machine is a great alternative as you don't have to leave Linux (or reboot) to use them.

If all you do is browse the web, as is the case for a a lot of people, the OS does not matter. Heck, my neighbor does not even have a computer, does everything on his phone.

Perhaps it's the lack of water as it dries.

It was called AI in games long before OpenAI released ChatGPT.

That's not how it works. It is much easier to sit behind a computer and have opinions than saying no in that situation.

Using uBlock Origin, you can add your own filter. This filter will block any post with the text "Elon Musk" (not case sensitive), modify as needed.

lemmy.world##div.post-listing:has(span:has-text("/elon musk/i"))

div.post-listing is the element to block
:has(args) returns elements where args evaluate to true
span is the element with the title text
:has-text(needle) returns the element if it has the next needle, supports regex with \needle\ and remove case sensitivity with i

I just found out about AppImageLauncher, a package handler for AppImages. It organizes them, creates desktop files for you and handles updates and removal.

Integrate AppImages to your application launcher with one click, and manage, update and remove them from there. Double-click AppImages to open them, without having to make them executable first.

Much better than having to create all the desktop files myself, and having to figure out what to put in them for it to work correctly (I'm looking at you, qBittorrent and magnet links).
