Be aware that OnlyOffice is developed by Russians and headquartered in Latvia, it may be perfectly fine but it's worth being aware of. At least one company claims to have severed ties as a result, and supposedly you have to pay for full features? LibreOffice is completely FOSS. https://dms-solutions.co/blog/dms-solutions-stops-doing-business-with-onlyoffice-due-to-onlyoffice-close-ties-with-russia/

That's exactly what he said, and then he also said except for industry-specific software like video editing, graphic design, etc, where big companies don't offer a Linux version and the alternatives aren't quite up to par. It's true there's Offcie 365 online but it's still subpar compared to the real deal, like if you're a PowerPoint or Excel power user or really need Access or another specialized program.

I'm all for Linux, these big companies have just eaten a lot of the market and refuse to play nice.

Exactly why I refuse to participate anymore among a dozen reasons.

My partner liked specific communities there but kept getting recommended upsetting stuff (got sucked into AmITheAsshole in a bad way, etc) so I uninstalled the official app and installed Apollo instead and their mental health greatly improved. But healthy satisfied people aren't profitable for corporations.

Just make sure that Unspecified is selected as a language in your settings, in addition to whatever languages you can read. Don't un-select "unspecified."

Ideally Lemmy wouldn't show you content that you can't interact with. Mastodon has that so it's possible, might take a feature request in the Lemmy software itself.

A few gigs of zeroes will prevent random drive-bys. At that point the partition and filesystem table of at least the first partition is overwritten and you "can" recover files off it but you'll be missing filenames and at least half the files will be corrupt due to fragmentation losing track of which files are where.

I agree with Ono that shred is a good tool for this. If you don't want to use that, try increasing the block size to at least 1M if not 16M to reduce the overhead.
