Ottawa chatrooms:

Please note the following:

* All chatrooms are linked together. If you join one room your messages will be copied to the other platforms.

* Matrix is an open source and potentially distributed chat protocol. The matrix room listed is hosted on matrix.org, a somewhat centralized hub for a lot of currently public rooms. Though the protocol itself is free, libre and open source, the deployment of the protocol resembles a centralized service. This may be fixed in the future with the deployment of independent servers.

* Be aware that both Telegram and Discord are centralized proprietary platforms and do not necessarily protect your rights nor privacy while simultaneously giving power to corporations.

Ottawa motorists may want to fill up the gas tank today, with prices expected to soar above $1.90 a litre on Wednesday.

Canadians for Affordable Energy president Dan McTeague says gas prices will increase seven cents a litre in Ottawa on Wednesday to 196.9 cents a litre.

The average price of gasoline is sitting at 189.9 cents a litre on Tuesday.

Gas prices jumped 12 cents a litre last week in Ottawa and across Ontario.

Gas has jumped approximately $0.60 a litre in Ottawa since late February due to the war in the Middle East. On April 20, the federal government suspended the fuel excise tax on gasoline for the summer, dropping as prices 11 cents a litre.

Some Ottawa parents are calling for the province to address lead levels in school drinking water after a report found that three schools in the city had some of the highest levels in Ontario.

Garrett Hansen and Barbara Daniela Gandolfo both have kids at Fallingbrook Community Elementary School, which was reported to have lead levels above accepted provincial standards by the Canadian Environmental Law Association (CELA), an environmental advocacy group.

In March, the association published a report that found the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB), the city's biggest school board, had more test results above those standards than any other school board in Ontario.

Speeding in school zones that used to host speed cameras has shot up since the cameras were turned off, according to new City of Ottawa data.

...

In a report to council's public works and infrastructure committee, staff say compliance at those pilot sites fell from 87 per cent to 51 per cent within just three weeks of the cameras' removal.

Three months after removal, compliance had dropped even further, falling to 41 per cent. High-end speeding rose from 0.3 to 4.5 per cent during that period.
