Riddles community (catata.fish)

I initially made this to test out creating a bot for lemmy but after some digging I noticed there isn't a 'general' community for riddles so feel free to post some good(and bad) riddles. Maybe Catatafish can use them for the next traveler seeking passage through the esophagus.

You have six buckets all lined up in a row.

The first three are filled with rocks and the second three are empty, so the starting pattern is ‘full full full empty empty empty’.

You are only allowed to touch/move one bucket and for the one bucket you touch, you are only allowed to touch it one time.

How do you make it so that the order of the buckets becomes ‘full empty full empty full empty’?

The year is 1985. You are on the ground floor of a four-story building. On the top floor there is a lightbulb. On the ground floor with you there are three light switches. All three switches are connected to electricity but only one of the switches controls the lightbulb on the top floor - the other two switches are not connected to anything.

You cannot go outside, there is no one helping you, and most importantly, you can only go up to the top floor one time to check.

How do you determine with absolute certainty which of the three switches controls the lightbulb?

If this post gets any traction I’ll post the answer.

The answer involves no wordplay, is not cheesy or impossible to figure out… just use logic and you should be able to come up with the correct answer.

The Check (catata.fish)
submitted 11 months ago by Catatafish@catata.fish to c/riddles@catata.fish

A woman went into a bank to cash an insurance refund check. By mistake the teller gave her dollars for cents and cents for dollars. She put the money in her purse but accidentally dropped a nickel on the floor. When she got home, she found that she had exactly twice the amount of the check she had cashed. She didn't have any money in her wallet before going to the bank. What was the exact amount of that check?

AnswerThe amount must have been $31.63. She received $63.31. After she dropped a nickel there would remain the sum of $63.26, which is twice the amount of the check.

Three Dieties (catata.fish)

Once upon a time, in a temple, there were three deities: Truth, Lie and Wisdom. The Truth Deity always told the truth. The Lie Deity always told the lie. The Wisdom Deity sometimes told the truth, sometimes told the lie. Unfortunately, those three deities looked exactly the same, so that no one could distinguish them. One day, a sage came by and he differentiated them by the following trick: He asked the deity sitting on the left: "Who is the middle deity?"- "Truth", said the deity. He asked the deity sitting in the middle: "Who are you?"- "Wisdom", replied the deity. He asked the deity sitting on the right: "Who is the middle deitie?"- "Lie", the deity answered. How could the sage distinguish the three deities?

AnswerThe left deity is Wisdom; the middle one is Lie, and the right one is Truth. Explain: The left deity (L) said that the middle one (M) is Truth; therefore, L cannot be Truth (because there cannot be two Truth Deities!). M said he was Wisdom; therefore, he cannot be Truth. Thus, R is Truth. According to him, M is Lie and as a result, L is Wisdom.
