Hornsund - Svalbard (lemmy.world)

This was taken in the Hornsund - southern Spitsbergen. I would love to go back - a very stark and beautifiul place.

I'm rigged up and ready to go on a weekend where I got in three consecutive days of sailing -- first time ever. Next acquisition: tiller extension. It is now clearly in the must-have category.

Does anyone have any handy resources for doing electrical work on a boat? I have to update most of my electrical systems as part of a repower I'm doing. The stakes are pretty high with electricity so I want to be sure I'm doing it right.

I'll be racing J35 Osprey 205 miles over 40ish hours with 7 other people. You can track our AIS here: http://kws.kattack.com/WPlayer/WPosDisplay.aspx?FeedID=1928

Left the engine on the boat and sailed my dinghy to shore today for a grocery run.

This is my hobie 18. I mostly sail inland lakes. I got it because I was tired of taking my pocket cruiser out and it not moving because there wasnt enough wind. This cat will move in much lighter blows.

The bioluminescence of the water caused my AC discharge water to glow at my slip last night.

That’s a first for me.

Could also watch the glowing outline of fish swimming!

Avalon specifically, which has the densest mooring field I've ever been in.

After buying a Hunter 23 last year fall, then finally getting it out at a local reservoir I figured I needed to get all my ducks in a row. Currently learning in a 4 person group on a J/24.

Pic is my hunter 23 under mainsail with no jib as a trial run. Or it would be if I didn't get an error trying to upload a picture.

Had to get out of the sun for a few moments while doing some boat work. Got a good long look at the mast.

We loaded up the Hunter 170 today to see how she would sail when loaded down with camping gear in preparation for next weekend’s trip to the Apostle Islands.

My wife is still a bit nervous, but feeling much more confident after today. Please ignore the watering can. She wanted to put a bit more weight onboard just in case.

Just out here on vacation and drove past this thing... Never seen anything like it.

Folding trimaran.

I'll stipulate up front that I know electrical setups vary wildly between specific boats. That said: I'm about to do a weekend charter on a 36 ft sailboat, and I was wondering if there is a general amount of time that is typical to run the engine per day to top off the house bank.

Hey! Just curious if anyone has read this book. Also, in the beginning it mentions buying Nylon twine (36-48), double braided Dacron rope, and three strand spun Dacron rope. I went to my local West Marine and had trouble actually finding this stuff, it's a smaller store so maybe they didn't have it? Can anyone point me in the right direction to find this stuff?

S/V Pinnacle, a Tartan 4100, leaving Buzzards Bay at the start of the 2023 Marion Bermuda Race. You can just make out my gray beard fiddling with the mainsail trim if you squint hard.

Stole this from another sub (don't know how to cross-post) but it's an interesting application of sailing.
