Something that has bothered me since the dawn of mainstream internet adoption: the need to reinforce that you're stating your opinion. I shouldn't have to say "I don't personally like Pearl Jam, I think they're trash, but that's my opinion". I should just be able to say "Pearl Jam sucks." and based on the fact that there is no objective measure of musical quality one could imply that this is a statement of my personal opinion because I'm the person who fucking said it. Certain assertions are categorically opinion and not fact and the inability or unwillingness to perform this very basic form of reading comprehension seems lost as soon as someone is online.
That's something people do in real life too, it's not an internet thing. It's a being courteous thing and indicating that you respect other people's opinions to the contrary.
A lot less and this is partially due to it being an internet thing for 20 years
MauLer ruined objectivity/subjectivity for everybody
I remember this in like 2002
True & understandable, I think Long Man is the first time I've seen someone stretch and rend the definitions of those concepts in public though.
Does the interweb just make people unreasonable, then? Anonymity etc?
I think early on it was a bunch of people who hadn't read much before using the internet and were bad at inferring or implying tone in writing and then it became normal over time
I can say with full confidence that Train objectively sucks. Its not only my opinion, it's the correct take.
"So gangsta, I'm so thug" shit lyrics from a shit artist.
There's bands and stuff I don't like, but Train makes me angry in like not a fun listening to punk way but like, I'm mad at the song kinda way
True. Maybe it's to separate themselves from "[Music Artist] is OBJECTIVELY TRASH" posting
