No, this is the first time i heard about that.
Another movie that I really like is free fall. Not sure if you have watched but spoiler alert: ~~no one dies, but it is still a sad ending~~
No I've not seen that I'll check it out!
The bury your gays trope does seem to be dying out now and there are more and more positive/normal representations but you can still catch it. Brokeback Mountain was a classic example of it, but that's quite old now.
