Make a tea with boiling water and whole cloves to help with a tooth ache. It'll numb your whole mouth (sore tooth included), and is apparently mildly antibacterial. My mom had a lot of dental problems, because she had a phobia of going to the dentist (my grandparents took her to a quack as a child), and this would always help.

You can also just put the whole clove on the tooth just between tooth and cheek.
