Also, in a much more mundane way, cat litter is just helpful to have around in case of large spills. We have a thing of it in my lab for chemical spills, and my dad keeps one in his garage for oil spills.

Cat litter (or vermiculite, or diatomaceous earth) is also commonly found in schools because children tend to randomly throw up and it is a basic spill response tool for businesses.

Yet gain, CHUDs being weird and projecting their own desires onto children.
