It’s a country with over a billion people with internet access across the world. Negative events will always garner more attention. For every Indian guy teaching you the entirety of the computer science and biology majors for free, you’ll get 50 news articles/social media posts about some weird Indian guy asking for nudes.

No fault to them, but the Indian government is run by patriarchal, theological fascists who hate women. These are the same people mentioned above, the weird guys that flood social media with nationalism and fascism. I imagine most people here are more familiar with the Hindu nationalists kneeling down to get insulted by Zionists then thanking them than they are with Indian anti-zionist activists. This is the nature of the zeitgeist being led by fascists.

This is just part of it. As mentioned in a different comment, Indians also take up a lot of outsourced tech work which usually breeds resentment from westerners using their services. Some of their jobs are also replaced, and some Indians from these sectors also become wildly successful in the corporate world.

It’s a mixture of economic and treat related resentment and unrestricted internet. I imagine the same reaction would be had for Chinese if their internet wasn’t separated. You can already see glimpses of this in gaming spaces where Chinese gamers use VPNs.
