yea some nutjobs will do some shit probably, but it will be pretty isolated. Most Americans still arent at the "im ready to die" point. Even the ones who talk a big game.

And a lot of the Jan 6 chuds really, really thought they'd get away with it. They had two very strongly held beliefs:

  • If we're holding Thin Blue Line flags and screaming the word constitution, the state wouldn't touch us!
  • If we really, truly believe, in our heart of hearts, that we're covered by a legal exception to do crimes, the state can't touch us!

The test for many legal exceptions is whether a "reasonable person" would believe such-and-such. But conservatives really think that if they strongly profess a belief, that's just as good. It's why they started calling all their opponents pedophiles. The actual concept doesn't even cross their mind, to them it's just a word that means "can be murdered"
