UK Politics
General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.
Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.
Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.
If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)
Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.
Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
!ukpolitics@lemm.ee appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(
Is there anything particularly right wing about her views?
Honestly, I don't know enough to comment on that. I remember that during her brief stint as shadow health secretary she was known as one of the blairites given a job by Corbyn in a failed attempt to unite the party, but that's all.
(Also, "labour right" doesn't mean right wing in a wider context, it usually refers to Progress (Blairites), Labour First, and sometimes blue labour (although they're kind of the opposite of progress).)
If enacting a coup against a democratically elected left wing leader isn’t a “particularly right wing view” in your book, then perhaps no.
So, no strong right wing views?
Coup implies a violent takeover rather than exercising their rights under the party rules and accepting the result when it failed.
Not in English it doesn’t .
Wow. Not OP. But TIL Born in UK lived in both UK and US. This is the first I am learning the word is different here. Thanks
That said, the whole way the UK democratic process works. MPs are expected to be the ones to call party leadership into question. Both Labour Party rules and the structure of parliament are designed that way.
So even though I disagreed with her.
While coup may be correct. Objecting to a party leader because you disagree with them is in no way right wing.
To accuse her of being right wing. You honestly need views or policies she supports tha are right of centre.
Not saying she does or does not have any. With the Overton window so far right atm. It can be hard to agree a line. But objecting to and rebelling against a party leader is not it alone.
Please shut up.
