I'm a tech decelerationist at this point. I carry a notebook with me for journaling, notes, reminders, etc... I have also been starting to buy physical books.
Not only is there something satisfying about physical media/mediums, but it also helps me personally with my neurodivergence. Writing things down allows me to parse my thoughts and present them to myself in a more cohesive way.
On the topic of the meme, I realized that it doesn't imply physically writing and reading, but that's where my brain went.
Saaaaame
You could never get me to use a planner as a kid, and even note taking was sparse (but if I did it it was mostly on paper), but now I'm buying notebooks and planners and shit voluntarily, in part because tech has gotten less usable and more distracting/ennervating. The UIs or whatever are mostly fine I guess but the whole package taken as a whole (smartphones especially) doesn't work for me
100% same. I've realized i become numb to digital notifications because the sheer number of notifications is overwhelming and I end up just swiping them all away because the anxiety from them piling up is worse than the anxiety of not completing the tasks.
I've been making a conscious effort to take physical notes since apparently it significantly improves memory retention and also I struggle to write enough in pen and paper exams and I'm trying to build up the skill again.
It does help me pay attention, but the inconvenience of it not being searchable or accessible anywhere isn't ideal.
What kind of neurodivergence
ADHD/Anxiety/OCD
I have a tendency to lose the thread on tasks if I'm not writing notes about my progress or keeping a list of my next steps. I've realized that doing this digitally doesn't work for me as well. Notifications on my devices become very overwhelming and end up becoming background noise in my day-to-day, so I've learned to use physical pen and paper and dry-erase boards to manage my chores, tasks, etc...
It still requires a lot of effort to stay on top of it, but I don't ignore the physical lists the same way i ignore the digital notifications.
