The name sounds edgy. The reality of it isn't. That's what I was saying.
no i picked up on that, i guess i just don't see how it's supposed to sound edgy.
Perhaps you just perceived it as such and im thinking way too hard about this lmao
To me, it's that they had to come up with a name for it since I doubt anyone would want to admit to liking Linkin Park - In The End (Chipmunk Version) rather than Nightcore Remix by xXRavenXx
that might be it, it's definitely an odd sub-genre of music, but there are similar things in other samples pulled into other songs. Vaporwave being a fairly similar aesthetic just sort of backwards.
No idea what the etymology of nightcore is, but i'm sure it's interesting.
