For the record I was posting in support of inclusive language, but pointing out that context and convention matter.

They seem to have even scrubbed my comment from their instance, lol.

I could see how that is transphobic.

modding based on vibes

It usually is. If you don't get paid, a bit of arbitrary power is kind of expected.

modding based on contex, don’t be silly.

[-] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 5 points 1 week ago

OP stated what his intention and meaning here was but we got half a comment section int his thread trying prove that he meant something else.

Very paternalistic behavior:

  1. removing OP's agency then
  2. imposing punitive measure
  3. gas lighting "we told you what you meant, stfu!"

Microcosm of the modding around much of Lemmy really. People with poor reading comprehension or outright bad faith actors?

babe the person you replied to stated that the context of the initial post matters.

no matter the intention, it’s important to consider what the actual impact of the post could’ve been. you just took the piss. my replies to you are reiterating that the context DOES matter, and isn’t just “vibes”.

[-] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 4 points 1 week ago

The context here is that OP was posting on lemmy.world when got accosted by some random person about usage of word "dude" being transphobic, which is not true.

no matter the intention

ohh really intent don't matter no more?

what sort of clown position is this? accusing people of "crimes" and it does not matter if they even meant to commit the crime?

it’s important to consider what the actual impact of the post could’ve been

If you are going to harass people online about their choice of words, they will clap back. This is internet 101.

[-] yuri@pawb.social -3 points 1 week ago

they clearly weren’t banned for an intent that they only expressed in the post complaining about being banned. i hope you’re being willfully dense, because i can’t help you if you GENUINELY think this bullshit.

[-] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 4 points 1 week ago

yes i genuinely think that this modding is grade A clown behavior lol

the solution is to block the instance, that's the lesson here.

overzealous modding will eventually isolate instances with overzealous modding into echo chambers.

but we need these discussions so that general public is educated on these issues.

cheers!

[-] yuri@pawb.social -4 points 1 week ago

yeah it sounds like that instance is a bad fit for you. probably similar situation for most everyone incurring bans, and most likely the case for the folks who come to places like this to complain about them.

seems like the moderation is working perfectly! ^^
