Its to move the Overton window. It is clear the Elon gave a "Roman" Nazi salute. There are forces trying to control the narrative. Gaslight. Obstruct. Project.

Deny. Defend. Depose.

I had to google Overton window, (I learnt something) and your comment sounds plausible

It is clear the Elon gave a “Roman” Nazi salute.

Of course he gave a Roman salute, followed by a Bellamy salute to the flag.

Of course, it's called a Roman salute because fascists, especially Italian fascists wanted to associate themselves with the Roman empire as an image of strength.

Wait, that, err, didn't help much, did it? Let's try the other one.

The Bellamy salute was stopped as a way for civilians to salute the flag in the US when Congress revised the Flag Code and replaced it with something else. checks notes With putting hand over heart. checks notes again In 1942. keeps reading Specifically because it resembled the fascist salute.

Well fuck, it's almost like the Roman salute and Bellamy salute used after the mid-20th century are just a way to pretend what you're doing isn't actually a fascist salute or something. Like it's, I don't know, a particularly poor attempt at plausible deniability.
