Fellow night wakers, I have a question. Sometimes if I wake up in the night and cant go straight back to sleep, Iโll grab my phone and do mindless things on it until I feel drowsy again. Iโve always thought this is a bad habit, but is it really? Distracts me and I go back to sleep eventually. I have it in dark mode so minimal bright light. So should I kick the habit? What would be an alternative?
Same. Iโm considering sorting out my library card so I can use a book
Edit: Otherwise you could put on an asmr or brown noise video to listen to lying down until you drop back off
I give it the old "it is what it is". If I wake around 4am, I'll likely stay awake then get up by 5:30 and take the dog for a walk. 2-3am I'll potter on my phone or ereader for an hour or so then get back to sleep until around 6am, for walkies. After back spasm last week, I've been hitting up the evening magnesium supplements which I reckon help me sleep better.
I pop an audio book on low volume with a timer. Usually something I've read before. It's enough to distract my brain but not too stimulating and no light. I usually drop off fairly quickly.

Do what works for you. Some people can go to sleep with the tv on and some people can't. I listen to podcasts and audio books. It's like someone's reading me a bedtime story.
Sameee. Sometimes it's too interesting or good though ๐คฃ love trashy dystopian horror and sci fi
I've said it a hundred times before, If you want good sleepies go to bed with Professor Brian Cox in your ear. Guaranteed nigh-nighs in ten minutes.
