Over the past few months I've been making mutual aid posts due to my dire financial situation, in which I ask for food vouchers and provide an email address for them to be sent to. During this time I've suddenly been getting an absolutely ridiculous amount of porn junk mail - things like "Hey baby, I saw your online profile, you look like the man for me....etc" I'm not a man and don't have a dating profile. I get nearly 100 of these a day now. I've also been getting other junk mail, mainly shopping stuff, wanting me to buy things. I never used to get this. I really have to conclude that someone here or on lemmy used my email address to sign me up for this. It's just the latest in a line of trolling since I started asking for help.

Thanks for the info. I guess it could be a bot then. I just assumed someone might have done it because since I started here I've had a few trolls. Most people have been absolutely lovely, and I wouldn't have managed without the help and emotional support I've received here but I've had a few incidents, from minor ones such as people promising help here and not following through, to 2 people at lemmygrad trolling me relentlessly (they were dealt with by the mods). A minority of people even on these sites seem to hate people who ask for help so I thought one of them might have done it.

The existence of anyone here or Grad being a total fuck like that is upsetting, but I'm glad they got dealt with. Really glad to hear you've got help and support Care-Comrade

As I say, can't say you're wrong with any certainty. No way to be sure where spammers sourced their email, just wanted to float web crawlers as a definite (albeit, also annoying) possibility.
