Same for Portugal. The Carnation Revolution was a huge change and afaik the only time a European colonizer just said “go on, you’re free now” to its colonies. But everything before that was :yikes-1::yikes-3:

Unfortunately my grandfather was drafted to fight in Salazar’s wars attempting to keep control of the colonies.
