I need to spend more time studying this weird pattern of behavior. I keep wondering why there are so few young successors and why these people are choosing to work until they die and why the party is OK with it. I suspect that the GOP actually trends younger than their opposition because young and young-ish people are significantly more progressive than they can actually allow.
My intuition says that this has something to do with racism and the cultural and demographic shifts of the last 50 years or so, but that's not based on any serious inquiry.
The Boomers with power seem to be so fixed on kicking the ladder out behind them, yet they're surprised when they have absolutely no one up to their standards to be their successors
