How tricky would it be To create a browser extension that notified you if you visit a site owned by these big6 (and more) and which one?
That's...a lot of domains.
The database seems like the biggest hurdle indeed.
I am considering about a community maintained dataset that starts with the most major sites and companies and expands from there.
I would not be able to do this alone but we could create a lemmy place to start something like it.
I don't see why not. Maybe a community for it will interest potential contributors to the project!
You could just assume that whatever you see is propaganda.
Not even Lemmy is an exception there but wouldn’t it be nice to know whos propaganda we are consuming?
Unless your advocating to cut the cable and live of grid we still have to visit sites.
I talking beyond the scope of media also. I would like to know if a dogfood site is actually nestle or not.
I have a cat and I try not to buy Purina, because it's owned by Nestle.
But realistically, there's no way you can bring down a company as big as Nestle or Musk by not buying from them.
I mean, has Musk lost anything if he only goes down to a mere $1 billion?
imho
True
Its less about actively bringing them down and more about actively not being a part of the problem by supporting slightly more ethical alternatives.
The Rich have more money then they could ever dream of spending, thats why its absurd that money is a motivator. Its an addiction to egomania and authoritarian power that drives their actions.
