A community for your defence shitposting needs

Rules

1. Be niceDo not make personal attacks against each other, call for violence against anyone, or intentionally antagonize people in the comment sections.

2. Explain incorrect defense articles and takes

If you want to post a non-credible take, it must be from a "credible" source (news article, politician, or military leader) and must have a comment laying out exactly why it's non-credible. Low-hanging fruit such as random Twitter and YouTube comments belong in the Matrix chat.

3. Content must be relevant

Posts must be about military hardware or international security/defense. This is not the page to fawn over Youtube personalities, simp over political leaders, or discuss other areas of international policy.

4. No racism / hatespeech

No slurs. No advocating for the killing of people or insulting them based on physical, religious, or ideological traits.

5. No politics

We don't care if you're Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Stalinist, Baathist, or some other hot mess. Leave it at the door. This applies to comments as well.

6. No seriousposting

We don't want your uncut war footage, fundraisers, credible news articles, or other such things. The world is already serious enough as it is.

7. No classified material

Classified ‘western’ information is off limits regardless of how "open source" and "easy to find" it is.

8. Source artwork

If you use somebody's art in your post or as your post, the OP must provide a direct link to the art's source in the comment section, or a good reason why this was not possible (such as the artist deleting their account). The source should be a place that the artist themselves uploaded the art. A booru is not a source. A watermark is not a source.

9. No low-effort posts

No egregiously low effort posts. E.g. screenshots, recent reposts, simple reaction & template memes, and images with the punchline in the title. Put these in weekly Matrix chat instead.

10. Don't get us banned

No brigading or harassing other communities. Do not post memes with a "haha people that I hate died… haha" punchline or violating the sh.itjust.works rules (below). This includes content illegal in Canada.

11. No misinformation

NCD exists to make fun of misinformation, not to spread it. Make outlandish claims, but if your take doesn’t show signs of satire or exaggeration it will be removed. Misleading content may result in a ban. Regardless of source, don’t post obvious propaganda or fake news. Double-check facts and don't be an idiot.

Trump finally realized Putin has been playing him, with some not-so-subtle help from Melania. Trump did an abrupt about-face on Ukraine policy over the last few days and the US is going to start shipping them weapons again.

[–] BremboTheFourth@piefed.ca 56 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Don't forget, Trump's full of shit. He was talking positively about Ukraine right before the shipments stopped in the first place. As far as I remember Hegseth got blamed for the stoppage, but he's still the Secretary of Defense, sooo... don't assume anything Trump says will happen until actual moves are made. And as far as I can tell, zero moves to restart shipments have actually happened.

With Europe paying for them. The US president is oh so kind to allow us to buy them at full list price. Thanks, ally

To be honest, I think that's barely a footnote.

Like, yeah, transfer some made up numbers from our computer to your computer, whatever. Money has a different meaning when it comes to the state that manages it spending it. ECB will adjust its interest rate a month later or something to make up for it. The issue right now is that Europe has neither stockpiles nor production capacity, so the USA sending their hardware is the game changer.

The issue right now is that Europe has neither stockpiles nor production capacity, so the USA sending their hardware is the game changer.

And who's fault is that? The US has been creating its own military industrial complex for the last 75 years, spending literally half of its budget on useless weapons that will barely get used, all at the cost of benefits that its citizens could have had.

Meanwhile, Europe has two tugboats and some leftover AK-47s in a warehouse somewhere.

You make it sound like I said something different?

[–] CanadaPlus 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

It's more like 15% of the whole annual budget. About half of the discretionary budget, but then you add in interest payments and social security and things like that.

But yes, the rest of the Western world has been complacent as hell.

Trump did an abrupt about-face on Ukraine policy over the last few days and the US is going to start shipping them weapons again.

Did he say all of this, or did he do it?

Because Trump's word is worthless. Less than worthless. Like, inverse debt millionaire worthless. Every time somebody listens to him talk, he actually owes them money.

[–] InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

There does seem to be a major policy shift happening. Still TACO principal can never be ruled out.

[–] supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No, Trump is too stupid and selfish to admit that, rather I think Trump realizes Ukraine is now decisively winning, Russia is falling apart and it makes him look weak to be alone in backing the losing side so he flip flopped to Ukraine.

There is no other reasonable explanation that makes sense, Trump jumped ship on Putin because Trump is a coward, end of story.

[–] CanadaPlus 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don't know, being the last person on the planet to realise Putin might not genuinely want peace is pretty dumb. And, if he actually just needed Russia to win that would have been pretty easy to accomplish, as US president.

[–] supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 days ago

Trump doesn't "just" need Putin to win.

There are interests that allign between them and interests that don't.

Trump doesn't have loyalties or ideologies beyond doing whatever he selfishly thinks will be best for him.

My argument is that Trump is behaving selfishly by jumping ship on the Putin train, not that Trump is intelligent. Trump is an idiot, and worse he is a terrible person.

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Zero chance that is what happened. Rather the intelligence community reminded his handlers that Russia backs Iran, and were the single force behind the Hamas attacks on Israel to divert attention from Ukraine.

Slowpoke.jpg finally caught up.
