Money that could be spent actually improving the lives of the people of this country.
We've had enemy vessels in our waters in the past, the Germans sunk multiple vessels in our waters during the war, and the way things are going, I can see similar shenanigans happening again.
But if that is the case, a couple of new helicopters isn't going to help. Any potential invader that wants to take NZ is likely going to have a much stronger force than we can muster. That's why we traditionally have relied on our allies for military strength.
It's not likely we will face a full scale invasion, but commerce raiding like we saw during ww2, or illegal fishing in our waters is quite possible.
And you think these helicopters and planes will be able to fight the germans when they attack us?
