This article is probably on to something for guys who knee-jerk say that tofu is bad, (that disgust reaction also maps pretty nicely to conservative vs liberal views as a fun extra fact), but also... tofu is fine.
It is not great, it's not bad, it's fine. There are a few dishes I prefer it, and I like fish tofu and soft tofu for hot pot, but generally it's fine.
What I really think is that this article is picking a fight, and that's cool with me because tomorrow night I'm getting a dry aged wagyu ribeye for my birthday. I feel a little guilty about it, but I feel the same amount of guilty as I feel sorry for the insecure person who wrote this article as a burn.

Tofu is as good as the chef who prepares it. Could be bland, could be fuckin amazing, depending on how it's made
I've never had bad tofu, but I've also never had tofu that blew my tits clean off.
I have had my mind blown by some Asian tofu dishes, not very often but it's happened.
I have definitely had bad tofu, and it was my own fault

No that's good tofu. Bad tofu is when you just heat it up unpressed, unmarinated, and without frying it, so it ends up just being sad watery cubes.

Not really.
Had old tofu in fridge. Didn't really drain it. Tried to fry it. Disaster. Old tofu past its prime with liquid definitely has a bad taste.
I have also had amazing tofu. There is a place near me that does a crispy tofu with a dry rub similar to crispy chicken.

You can definitely have bad tofu. It can be overly hard but not in a crunchy kind of way. Just tough.
