I thought the switch to Ciri as the protag in the next game would be interesting but now that they’ve announce this i have to ask myself “why not just gerald forever?” they’ve already contrived ways to resurrect and remake him before
I assume this DLC is basically part of their marketing campaign for The Witcher 4. They'll sell it cheap for attention, making back part/all of their investment in it, and it'll probably be geared to segue towards The Witcher 4's story in some way. So it reminds people of The Witcher series and how much they liked The Witcher 3, while making them want to see where things go with The Witcher 4.
Seeing this I sort of expect them to pull the same thing with Cyberpunk 2077 when its sequel is close, like they go and drop the "canceled" DLC that involved a heist on an orbital or a moonbase or something like that, to draw people back in.
If I'm right, that's certainly a better use of idk like $50 million of their marketing budget than just buying fucking youtube ads or the like.
an actual spoiler (for the novels)
In defense of CDPR, this can of worms was opened by Andrzej Sapkowski in the novels.
A game focused on Ciri would be really cool. There's a lot that can be done with travel to alternate universes. For example, in the novels, Ciri stumbles into the timeline of Arthurian legend and spends a worthwile amount of time there. In a videogame, she could travel to all sorts of other unexpected times and places.
IMO, the GOAT would be a game focused on Regis though.
i like that idea. I read I believe most of the novels and always thought he was cool.
spoiler
doesn't he like die in a castle raid or something?spoiler
Yeah. But he was like 450 years old. You could also do some interesting storytelling from that angle, making several 50-100 year jumps through history.
Interview with the vampire did it great. Regis just needs to be gay and messy
