language barrier, you don't need to read 6 million lines of dialogue to shoot the guy infront of you.
there's a lot of other games without the language barrier though. there isn't a game binary between mainstream blockbuster slop and boutique bible sized critique of capitalism, most games are about having fun shooting the guy in front of you in various ways.
