Went to the Utrecht last week and have to admit that certain parts of the city are hard for pedestrians. The bike traffic is so intense, and they completely ignore any pedestrians trying to cross.
Yeah, as a pedestrian, you gotta lock eyes and confidently zipper in between (don't stop walking!). They won't stop, but they will avoid you.
This is how you cross the street in Tijuana. Just confidently step into the street an maintain a steady pace.
You were brave enough to say fuck cars. Are you brave enough to say fuck pedestrians? cycles over all.
Sorry even though I disagree with the anti-e-bike campaigns 99% of the time I am still a pedestrian supremacist when it comes to transit. The best cities are built around pedestrians. Humans were meant to walk.
That said, I haven't been to the places the artist is complaining about but I do believe this is a manufactured crisis in my city. The danger posed to pedestrians by e-bikes is extremely minimal, especially compared to cars.
To be fair, the word areas in Utrecht are not in the center. The center is absolutely pedestrian first. There's also lots of bike-only paths that made commuting a breeze.
I thought that for a bit when I went there. Then I went to Vietnam. I am ready.
In Hanoi I just had a mental breakdown, so I'm def not ready
