Yes, although we now see how we've built Pride itself on corporate donations, and when they dry up, Prides don't happen. We need to refocus ourselves. We don't need multi-milliondollar productions involving famous performers coming in to headline events. We need grassroots community groups to bring their members together, in true protest form, and remember what it means to be queer and strong.
As my state declares Traditional Values Month or some bullshit, I hope this wakes people up and gets them motivated again. We can't rely on assimilation. We shouldn't let our culture evaporate. It's worth preserving.
The best way to keep the peasants in line is by giving them other peasants to look down on. Makes them feel like they're in charge of something.
The allure of consumerism proved too great the first time round?
