You must post before you leave
Be nice. Assume others have good intent (within reason).
Block or ignore posts, comments, and users that irritate you in some way rather than engaging. Report if they are actually breaking community rules.
Use content warnings and/or mark as NSFW when appropriate. Most posts with content warnings likely need to be marked NSFW.
Most 196 posts are memes, shitposts, cute images, or even just recent things that happened, etc. There is no real theme, but try to avoid posts that are very inflammatory, offensive, very low quality, or very "off topic".
Bigotry is not allowed, this includes (but is not limited to): Homophobia, Transphobia, Racism, Sexism, Abelism, Classism, or discrimination based on things like Ethnicity, Nationality, Language, or Religion.
Avoid shilling for corporations, posting advertisements, or promoting exploitation of workers.
Proselytization, support, or defense of authoritarianism is not welcome. This includes but is not limited to: imperialism, nationalism, genocide denial, ethnic or racial supremacy, fascism, Nazism, Marxism-Leninism, Maoism, etc.

Moderator Guidelines
Moderator Guidelines
- Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
- Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
- When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
- Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
- Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
- Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
- Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
- Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
- Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
- Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
- Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
- Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
- First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
- Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
- No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
- Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
- Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

this is the email that GOG sent out to advertize the game. i did not put these symbols there, they did.
Using these symbols would definitely not be ok. Is there any source on this? I'm not saying it's not true, it just strikes me as weird that they would write "Slavic adventure" instead of the game's actual title.
source: i got that email (and i am german)
i haven't received the email myself, but there are many discussions of people receiving it on their forum and on reddit (as well as on social media), with different screenshots of the email in different clients.
Yeah I honestly couldn't find those, that's why I was hoping you could share a link
on their subreddit (there's a reply by their rep, it doesn't look good, they recognized what this looked like so they omitted the symbols in germany where it's actually illegal, but left it for everyone else??? holy shit)
another one on their subreddit
on r/gamingcirclejerk
thread on their forum (warning: lots of nazis on there...)
another thread on their forum
post on bsky (look at the replies)
They omitted the symbols from the German-language newsletter. German users using English still received it.
Oh wow, that GOG representative trying to justify it makes even worse:
spoiler
That is some weapons-grade apologetic bs. Thanks for the heads-up OP
LMAOOOOO well thats a fucking insane thing to admit that casually
So they notice that it totally, unmistakably looks like an SS symbol and then they just send it out anyways
They couldve just said "It was an automated thing" or "It was AI generated" or whatever but no, they say "we knew and we didnt give a fuck"
german here... i too received that exact email... so sadly the rep is talking out of his ass
It was not sent to users with German language set.
@gnufuu@infosec.pub commented GOG's response claiming the symbols just displayed like that on some devices. Like it's just some bug in how they are rendered, which sounds like bullshit... When you have time, could you please try to copy them from the email and paste to some web unicode explorer or something to be sure it really is that symbol used in the email?
that is the result for the unicode symbols from the mail topic "Slavic adventure 𖥞 ꥟ ϟϟ"
U+03DF ϟ GREEK SMALL LETTER KOPPA
U+1695E 𖥞 BAMUM LETTER PHASE-D MVOP
U+A95F ꥟ REJANG SECTION MARK
imo the problematic part is not the existance of each individual symbol in the mail.... the problem is the combination of all of em together
I wonder how realistic the one rune being displayed as the other on several devices is. Like, they are both unicode, and the screenshots seem to be from regular web browsers which should be pretty good at displaying it. It sounds like bullshit honestly...
Interesting. I got the email without the symbols, but Im not german.
4hrs ago‽
So someone in GOG is absolutely getting fired.
GOG newsletter subscribers often get promotional mails with slight discounts. These are not necessarily about only one game, the discounts often are bundled - the newsletter is then named more generically about a theme/shared element. And even if it's only about one game/series, those mails sometimes use headers that are not the name of said game/series.
