Pissing off it's great power neighbours by forcefully trying to incorporate an ethnically and politically separate part of the country in a unitary state and going on to suffer a catastrophic military defeat and losing 40% of its territory because its hawkish rulers wouldn't accept a realistic peace deal.

I just asked because this description heavily reminds me of "Sudetenland" annexation by Germany prior/(at the start of) to World War 2.
Yeah, but the very last part makes it Denmark. Germany didn't have a choice after ww2, did they?
