Whose art did you steal this time?
fym steal? all digital information should be free. it hurts nobody to copy it.
If you post someone's art and remove their watermark, you are stealing
I couldn't give two shits about sharing other's work, just properly attribute it or fuck off.
it's not stealing, since you take nothing away from the artist.
Acknowledgement of your peers and recognition for what you put out into the world is not nothing. Stop being an edgelord.
It's not stealing but it's an asshole thing to do with no justification and should still be condemned
My opinion is, that you should be able to do whatever you want to a digital file. I don't think it's wrong to scold the poster for not including the artists name though
Yeah nobody's arguing sharing digital files, hell I'm an avid pirate myself, but in this case it isn't just "downloading The Godfather," it's downloading it, editing out the credits for literally no reason, and re-uploading it under my account on another site.
Honestly with something like The Godfather it wouldn't really matter, but with a much lesser known pet project B movie, even if the creators support piracy they'd like you to at least maybe see their name. This comic would be the latter, while you could safely trim the name off of like, Charles Shultz's Peanuts, and assume people probably can figure it out.
You are stealing the credit they should get when people who aren't familiar with the work see it. If you can't handle that, you're free to kindly fuck off or get absolutely dog piled for being wrong. As I stated before, I don't care about content sharing as long as people are properly credited.
Beep is a well known content thief who actively modifies works to remove the author attribution. That is effectively digital theft, and I don't give a fuck what you think about the matter.
so you define stealing as not giving somebody something they deserve, based on your personal undefined moral standards?
The modified file does not significantly change the work, and does remove attribution. You should spend some time reading up on copyright, intellectual property, and creative commons, because you have obviously not done so if you think this is arbitrary.
Honestly, my friend, I'm pretty sure that's all stealing ever is, probably for you as well
so is me not giving you head pats because you were a good boy stealing? :3
There's income related to making and sharing digital media. It's not as simple as a simple monetary transaction, but there's income in social media presence and exposure which can be converted into monetary income. In any case, by removing the signature, the person is intentionally cutting that income stream from the artist.
It's more difficult to argue that it's stealing, since even though the person removing attribution from an artist is taking something from the artist, they're not necessarily gaining it for themselves.
It's removing attribution of the make of the maker
in what way is this stealing?
Would you scrub picassos sign off one of his artworks? This is the same
You're not answering my question. Scrubbing off picassos signature would be different, because it would destroy the physical artwork. I wouldn't have a problem with someone digitally removing his signature from a digital copy of the artwork and then distributing that online.
How is that not ruining the art but removing Picassoβs signature would be? I agree art should be free but that doesnβt mean we should make it easier to steal from artists that should be getting paid even if their art is distributed for free.
If you posted a Picasso piece and went thru the extra steps to remove his signature even digitally & then post it itβs kinda like a ripoff, youβre just unnecessarily removing the credit from the person who actually did the work.
I didn't say that removing picassos signature would not ruin the art. I said that physically destroying the artpiece is way different from copying a file and then modifying that copy. Copying digital art is not stealing. This mindset just enables stupid anti-piracy and copyright laws that will always harm the honest consumer
Wtf are you saying?
That has nothing to do with copyright, if you remove the signature of a famous Picasso art everyone will still know that is a Picasso art but from a random on the internet you're just making things difficult for the artist to spread their work for NO FUCKING REASON. You're having more work to just fuck an artist to gain absolute nothing.
posting a comic without the signature is stupid. its not wrong though and the poster is not morally obligated to spread the artists name
I disagree, if the art is good enough for them to share, surely the artists name is as well. Seems pretty cut and dry, morally.
Maybe people should be morally obligated to not do stupid things for no fucking reason.
imo, people should not be obligated to anything and i dont believe in morals. id like to conclude this discussion since i have nothing more to gain from it. thanks for sharing your opinion though
β i dont believe in moralsβ prob the craziest and dumbest shit Iβve ever heard. lol. Off to gulag with you
Imagine standing for nothing and being proud of that fact.
Defending it when you could just not is also stupid
Attribution is not DRM
Why would you allineate an artist from their work? Being recognised for what oneself makes is one of life's pleasures
i totally agree with you. and i think they should have included the artists name, just not for all the same reasons that you have. i think its stupid not to post the artists name, not cropping out the name would mean less work for the poster and it would make it easier for readers to find more comics of the same artist. i dont think what the poster did is wrong though, and i am against trying to justify having to include the artists name based on some weird morals and capitalistic ideas.
Crediting someone for their work is not capitalistic. Also, the poster is not only not crediting the creator, but they get to have their username on all their posts. Is this not a form of credit stealing?
