Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Not a huge fan of mormons myself. But danged if”n I have ever flicked a booger towards one. I do remember this bit of advice from my High School days, “If you go camping with a Mormon, be sure that there are several fellow Mormons. B/c if there are no other bro’s or sis’s around, then the party is on like Donkey Kong. That Latter Day Saint gon’ drink all yer booze & smoke all the weed. As long as there is accountability your camping stash is safe. What I am saying is that If you go camping & are bringing any mormon persons, do make sure you have at least 2 present at all times. That is all. Bearing witness amongst their kind will save you $’s personally. I am so not kidding.

in high school I dated a Mormon girl and it was so bizarre. she only ever showed ONE emotion, happiness. that's it, and even then you could tell it was genuine. Like I remember she absolutely bombed an exam and it was clear she was upset about it to point she wanted to cry but she couldn't. she refused or simply didn't know how to show that emotion.

Also yeah she drank like a fish when her Mormon friends weren't around.

The Mormon girl I dated in high school also tried to always appear in a good mood, put together, etc... but she really struggled, and had a lot of emotional outbursts while we were together. She even hinted at suicidal thoughts once or twice. Years later I realized she was probably dealing with some serious mental health issues. But the reason for the happy face is simple: they're taught that if you're unhappy that's because of a lack of faith in the holy spirit. If you are truly faithful then it will always fill you up with happiness and positive energy. So letting other people see that you're sad or upset about something will make them question your faith and dedication to the church. Even admitting it to themselves makes them ashamed, like they've committed a terrible sin. It's really sick.

This has to be one of the most soul-crushingly evil things I've ever heard. What a monstrously simple and devastatingly unhealthy thing to do to a person's brain.

It really is. It's maddening. But that's what cults do. I'm glad I'm out.

[–] krooklochurm@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Have you heard the good word of our dark lord and master, Satan, from whom all human advancements, intoxicants, and good music originate?

[–] lka1988@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

I'm a card-carrying member of TST! And occasional listener of LPOTL.

Hail Satan!

[–] MehBlah@lemmy.world 11 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I've experienced this. Its real and kinda pathetic.

[–] 6stringringer@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

When you can make that response a present tense scenario. It is really pathetic. Almost to an unbelievable degree. I mean, if you are tight (even somewhat) w/ them. Teeth grindingly awkward. But if they are buddies of your buddies then it’s like, WTF bro had too much too fast. Just let ‘em run around. Be sure he doesn’t fall into the campfire, fall off a cliff or drown. We’ll make homeboys hangover extra special.

You lack any context to make that statement about me. Here are a few things. I live in the south. I don't seek them out but due to the hue of my skin they volunteer things. You know nothing about me. So get a mouthgaurd for that teeth grinding problem but don't expect me to hold back when I tell people what the haters think. I know this first hand but to you since you aren't ever around any of them you only a idea about it. A theory. You don't live in it so your opinion is at best a fantasy.

[–] 6stringringer@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 months ago

Taking it a little personally eh? I didn’t have you in mind when writing that bit. Truth is I have had mormon friends and it is embarrassing more so when it is someone you like as opposed to someone you are not close to. It is when your first impression of that person is made by watching them go light speed head first into immediately overdoing it. That was the difference I was attempting to point out. I could explain it again if you like, but I can’t understand it for you.

[–] sugarfoot00@lemmy.ca 9 points 5 months ago (2 children)

I can attest to this story. And of course they never bring their own, so they're consuming all of your stuff, throwing your carefully planned intoxicant inventory completely out of whack. But also don't get them in groups of more than 3, or they'll wake you up before breakfast making a racket playing basketball.

[–] krooklochurm@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 months ago

How does one play basketball in the woods?

[–] 6stringringer@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 months ago

Dude. Oof. Yeah, they do that don’t they?
Mormons are ballers until you play city park ball. I am as white as wonder bread mind you. 6’3 250 something I’m 54 and feel damn good. I like pickup games with everyone. But when you throw juke moves and make an assist or drive to the hoop, our brothers in Christ foul just liiiiiiitttlle bit harder.
