Lest we forget, this is the man who infamously required you to have access to the CD case in order to progress the plot in his game.

What's the context on this? Having a hard time finding anything

Edit: looks like Metal Gear Solid, Psycho Mantis flight. I only see stuff about changing the controller port though, AI slop summary says you can win the fight by "inspecting the game case or switching ports" but doesn't say what inspecting the case accomplishes and I don't see anyone else mentioning it.

Sounds like the AI slop mixed up a snippet from the MGS5 Fandom site where there's a hint in the manual related to completing an extra operation. Has nothing to do with the OG mantis fight solution.

Contacting Meryl shortly before that fight requires getting her CODEC frequency, which is not told to you directly in-game. It's on the gameplay screenshots on the back of the box.
