Hello pppeeoples:3

new hexbear user here, long time communist, definitely a lurker cause im way too insecure than i should be cause of self image problems..

I'm from eastern europe and I'm glad to join you!! I like making new friends and helping world revolution, I also advocate about COVID to basically everyone to the point I'm annoying cause dear ones to me are disabled because of it. I also like touching grass but I'm basically in concrete hell, so not really possible:/ I like eink stuff a lot and own several ereaders, I am a Linux wizard, and I'm really into reading theory but also gay lesbian fics (dialectic), also Katalepsis is peak go read it. Most of the time I'm suffering from impostor syndrome so I'm quiet and dont say my opinions out loud because I dont feel like they're worth saying, but otherwise I'm very vocal and passionate about making the world a better place. I fall into doomerism easily which is why I'm trying to get more hopium from others..

It's really hard to characterize myself but it's a good exercise as it makes me feel like a person cause most of the time I go through the motions and just dissociate from myself and identity is well fucking weird all the time lol so I'm trying to affirm the fact I'm a real person by interacting with others outside my head. Idk if this resonates with anyone but I'm glad if anyone reads this in the first place :3 i hope to get to know y'all better. I constantly go through some stressful traumatic thing every few months at this rate and feel like I'm going to crack a little, but the horrors persist and so do I. I hate everything in real life and I'm doing omega suppression of my personality and gender so nothings going well for me and I feel like I have to make life defining choices every 2 months and mostly just a lot of bad shit. Anyways enough of that, see y'all:3 oh and I also have aphantasia and feel drained by the horrors of job seeking and working

Things I want in the near future: hiking in the mountains, hrt, a commie therapist

Nice!! I have a Kobo, havent really modded it cause the kepub support is fantastic, I think I will install KOReader on it to be able to use pdf reflow, I have it on my phone though. I really want to get my hands on an Xteink but I have no money.. looks really neat to carry around and mod

Also extremely rec Katalepsis it's so good it's actually life changing I've read it 1-2 years ago and finished it all and I have not seen anything as good as it, maybe it just hit home too hard for me, but the writing is absolutely amazing and I love the character depth

I recently acquired an old kindle, and of course that stock software had to be jailbroken and replaced immediately. Fortunately, being old, it was also on a vulnerable version. I've got it set up now to wirelessly get sent books from Calibre and to scoop up stories from royalroad straight on the reader itself.

Have you read Unjust Depths? It's unfortunately abandoned, but it was so good up until that.

Automated book sending sounds cool, I wanted to setup koreader for that but never got around; tbh I especially want to read my miniflux RSS feeds on my ereader but the website doesnt work on the Kobo browser even if it's very minimal in js:/

I have read Unjust Depths! Before Katalepsis actually, I remember the general outline but I would probably ahve to reread to remember the plot properly, yea I remember the author abandoned it over burnout. I'm trying to read more, right now I'm going through Dungeon Crawler Carl, it's gripping, quite silly, but also can tell the author is quite a lib at times and has some questionable views (speaking of authors, one of the main characters in Katalepsis quotes Mao lol and has many political undertones also all throughout even if quite disconnected from our world mostly)

KOReader has an RSS thing. I haven't used it because I never got into RSS, though.

I did just now add a thing that lets me search and download from Anna's archive right on the reader.

I've seen Dungeon Crawler Carl recommended before, but the vague lib author vibes kept me away.

I've been enjoying The Years of Apocalypse a lot, it's a magitech time loop story with heavy anticolonial themes and a bisexual heroine. Unfortunately, book 1 was recently stubbed from royalroad and put on amazon.

Sadly it cannot connect into Miniflux (highly recommend you give it a shot if you can, I have about 50 sources and it's great!). Also nice that sounds cool to browse Anna's Archive directly. Oo thanks for the rec i'll give it a shot if I can find it on AA!

Looks like somebody made a specific Miniflux plugin for KOReader here

The plugins really make KOReader a lot more powerful. There's even a plugin to download and install more plugins.

Woah awesome! It just seems annoying to install a bit cause kfmon (i think) gets removed on each firmware update

[–] buckykat@hexbear.net 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Also, according to this page KOReader can persist through Kobo firmware updates by installing it through NickelMenu

[–] transbyanism@hexbear.net 1 points 1 day ago

Oo nice! I dont know how it would behave with Kobo's 5.x firmware which might roll out soon though apparently it's a problem on the Tolinos

[–] buckykat@hexbear.net 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My kindle is never getting another firmware update in its life, because the firmware is adversarial. Most of the process of getting KOReader on there in the first place was keeping it from updating its firmware long enough to get it jailbroken and disable the forced auto updates.

Kobo adds niceties in their firmware updates so I keep mine up to date; yep amazon sucks
