Of all the things going on in world and also locally, from housing crises, economic instability, climate crisis etc.

How does one not fall into nihilism and just general despair? Are texts out there that teach and talk about how to hold grit and optimism in times like these?

TL;DR Help I don't want to be a doomer :(

Honestly? Sometimes being ground and mentally healthy requires a bit of fatalism.

Some things are very much out of your control and once you learn to accept that it becomes much easier to get through bad circumstances. It's basically a survival mechanism for a lot of people.

I could lose my job tomorrow but I'm not gonna lose sleep over that because it's simply out of my hands. If it happens, it happens. All I can do is figure out how to move forward if it does. So I don't worry about it.

Sometimes all you can do is react to things as they impact you and that's fine. Not everything can be fixed, avoided, or prevented. Sometimes you step in dog shit and just need to worry about washing it out.

Sometimes there really is nothing I can do and learning to live with that has helped my mental state immensely.

Came to say this, plus work on being mentally healthy daily. Resting my eyes, whether I'm sleeping or not has facilitated that, in addition to walking, helping neighbors when needed, petting the fur babies, getting enough sleep, choosing the healthier food as often as possible. These little things add up!

Also I actually read a fictional historical novel recently, and that was nice.

Can you tell me what the novel is?

It was at a local free community book exchange.
