Ah, sweet, we're doing Judeo-Bolshevism again. That one's a classic.

I don't know why but when I was younger the mental image I got whenever I read "slams" in a news article was the person in question actually, literally slamming the palm of their hand on a table.

No, for a few reasons.

The first is that military life just isn't for me. I figured this out back when I was still a patriotic lib and wanted to join the US military and ultimately didn't because I realized that just wasn't a lifestyle I could acclimatize to. The thought of potentially having to kill people while people try to kill me also didn't help.

Second is I'd probably have to learn Mandarin and I've heard it's very difficult for English speakers to pick up on which, y'know, makes sense. I struggled enough trying to learn Russian a few years ago. Learning a whole new language just requires so much more effort that I'm just not prepared to sink time & energy into. Especially if I have to undergo military service on top of that.

Third is as much as I love China it's unfortunately not very progressive on the queer rights front. There is a generally conservative attitude toward women and queers in China that is very disappointing. It's admittedly getting much better and I'm sure it will eventually outpace the West at some point but right now there are many places in the West that are still far ahead of China on these issues even if a lot of the West is regressing or in some cases never progressed at all. I just don't want to jump from the frying pan into the fire seeing as the biggest reason I'd want to leave the US is to escape the conservative hate cult.

It is of course absolutely horrible that people have to flee their homes in the face of war. I empathize with any Ukrainian family that has directly suffered as a direct consequence of the Russian invasion and the infliction of this suffering is why I can't be completely in support of Russia's actions, which I realize is a controversial take here.

But unlike this KKKlanadian whose view is clouded by racism & ignorance my empathy extends to all the victims of the conflict - including the ethnic Russians that were being slaughtered in the Donbas for the eight fucking years between the US-backed coup and the Russian intervention. See, I might not agree with Russia's decision to invade but I do understand why that decision was made and I can't fault them for it in the slightest even if it results in what I think is unnecessary amounts of death and destruction. The West may have baited Russia but Russia didn't need to take that bait. Regardless, when your own people are being massacred just across the border I can understand if it's hard to watch and not do anything. Honestly I'd probably have made the same decision if it had been me.

But of course the thought of them never crosses his mind because his entire worldview is filtered through the despotic Western narrative control of privatized media. The traumatization of an entire nation only matters when it's a Western-aligned nation; with no thought or care for those on the other side. Does he harbor the same resentment for America after the horrors we brought to Iraq and Afghanistan? Almost certainly not.

If you're going to have empathy for human suffering it can't be restricted by the borders of nations, the boundaries of cultures, or the extension of languages. That just makes you a fucking racist hypocrite.

PETA is to animal liberation what Anarchism is to proletarian liberation: passionate & well-intentioned but ultimately insufficient & misdirected.

Of course Anarchists don't kidnap people's pets out of their backyards to euthanize them, mass murder animals while calling it an action of 'mercy', lying about practices like sheep shearing and claiming they're harmful when they're not, trying to guilt-trip people out of eating meat by comparing meat eating to cannibalism, or having ties to the CIA as most US-based NGOs do.

Among many other things.

PETA as an idea is cool but the org in practice is hypocritical, moralistic, and it making a sudden branch out into terrorism wouldn't be all that far-fetched in the near future. Like with most things if we want to improve the lives & living conditions of animals we need theory & practice - not adventurism & shame campaigns.

"Venezuela is a distraction from the Epstein Files!" is just liberals betraying the fact they're ignorant of all the previous attempts at regime change in Venezuela since Chavez took power. They think this is a Trump plot and not an American one.

I'm just completely unphased by this stuff by now tbh. The depths of depravity the ruling class go into behind closed doors really is just the worst thing you can imagine. The secret lives of the capitalist class are literally just Salò or A Serbian Film unironically. Like they're actually exactly that evil. These are literally the people who run the West and once you understand & internalize that you can't do anything but strengthen your resolve against these sadistic perverts and everything they stand for.

Once met a Polish nationalist who unironically thought Russians were Swedes LARPing as Slavs and using the Rurikids & the origins of Novgorod as evidence.

Racism really does make you dumb.

Western Media: "RUSSIA ENGAGING IN BIOLOGICAL WARFARE"

I work in auto manufacturing in the US. Not directly making cars but making parts that go into cars.

The amount of work we've been doing is insane - overtime pretty much every day for the past two months to keep up with orders.

But that makes no sense. All these cars we're helping to produce, who the hell is buying them? Nobody has money for a new car. Most people in my city seem to be driving cars that are at least a few years old rather than brand new.

I do the math in my head and it doesn't make sense. Who is buying all these cars? Are they even selling? It seems like a scam of some kind.

The Angolan Civil War is a very strange period of history for me. By all logic it doesn't make sense that there are not only two large, powerful communist parties but that they were fighting each other - with one even being backed by the West of all people. I've heard the division was caused primarily by an ethnic dispute with the two parties representing two different ethnicities.

Is this accurate or was there more to it than that? I'd appreciate any insight anyone has - or at least resources if available - in order to better understand why this war happened.

Dangerous to be an unarmed lefty in the empire these days. Been looking to change that.

Need something cheap, easy to use, easy to maintain, and with a common & cheap ammo type.

Any good recs?

Fascinating video that looks into how in the absence of political education subcultures filled the role of giving alienated white workers something to latch onto to the best of their ability by preventing the descent of the white working class into fascism only to be ruthlessly attacked by the racist, conservative hegemonic culture ("White America") that sought their annihilation due to their refusal to conform leaving white workers with no sense of culture and identity beyond the sanitized one manufactured by corporate America. Eminem specifically is regarded as the last major white proletarian figure that was able to channel the frustration of working class white people into something that wasn't explicitly reactionary and that figures like him were more or less neutralized by mass media and the internet to pave the way for the MAGA movement to serve as a substitute for authentic rebellion, thereby hijacking the frustrations of white working class people and turning them toward fascism.

I don't know much about the ideology other than it allegedly fuses Arab Nationalism with Socialism and is divided between a Syrian and an Iraqi interpretation.

Beyond that I've heard a lot of claims about it ranging from accusations of it basically being Arab Fascism to being a genuinely non-Marxist Socialist project to being simply an anti-colonial bourgeois revolutionary movement.

English sources that aren't inherently biased against it (thanks Langley) are rare so I'm looking for an actually informed take on Ba'athism both as a theory and as a practice. Was it good? Was it bad? Was it good but flawed? Was it bad but had some genuine upsides? Was it good in context but bad generally (e.g. deserves critical support)?

What's the deal, exactly?

I've seen a lot of people ask why the USSR fell and a lot if people go into explaining what happened but not nearly as much exploration into how we can avoid repeating the same mistakes.

So what's the secret? How do we build something like the USSR again but avoid the same pitfalls that doomed it? How do we avoid repeating history? What have current socialist projects learned from the Soviet Union's tragic demise? What have current communist movements learned from the failure of the Bolshevik's project? How have current theoreticians grappled with this question?

I remember reading somewhere (Wikipedia, maybe?) that the Soviets became aware of the invasion plans before it happened by a German communist in the Wehrmacht who defected and told them about Germany's impending invasion. The article claimed the authorities disbelieved him, assumed he was a spy, and quietly executed him.

All of which sounds like something an anticommunist would make up to smear the USSR and so I'm hesitant to believe it.

Another claim I've heard was that when the invasion began Stalin didn't believe the officials telling him the Nazis were invading and thought it was a hoax and that they were conspiring against him, even threatening them. I don't remember where I heard this one but I believe it was coming from a liberal I was arguing with.

This also sounds too much like bullshit to be believable, so I'm here looking to fact check this stuff. Is there any truth to this stuff or is it just more anti-Soviet nonsense invented to make them look bad?

YouTube embeds don't seem to be working for me anymore and I'm not sure why.

Very informative video I found. It's nice to hear what actual Chinese queers have to say about being queer in China to counteract Western propaganda.
