Russian fish, Russian wolves, everything Russian is spooky scary! No need to buy decorations next Halloween, just hang up the Russian flag.

I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:

Russia is less densely populated so the fish is probably less polluted anyway

[–] Collatz_problem@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago

Really depends on where it was caught. Like the Baltic Sea is pretty polluted, for example.

who eats fish for christmas anyways

[–] cfgaussian@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 1 month ago

Well, the "Feast of the Seven Fishes" is a thing, apparently.

It's not uncommon in Catholicism and Orthodoxy to fast on Christmas Eve, and "fasting" in Catholic terms mostly just means not eating meat, but fish is ok because it was traditionally not considered meat.

A lot of people eat smoked salmon on Christmas in France

[–] p0ntyp00l@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'd take that over turkey, the only poultry blander than chicken with the consistency of napkins

[–] bloubz@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 1 month ago

Ah, they also eat turkey and foie gras. Lunch is basically all afternoon. Try eating vegan in France for Christmas, you won't have a good time

USA too, and a couple of Christmas dinners at my family home, grilled or roasted Salmon was the entree. Last Christmas, lobster bisque was served for the soup course and it was flawless.

Lithuanians (me) and Poles do. I believe some Italians do as well.

Yeah I literally ate my words cuz I went to my family friends' place who are polish x-mas eve and had some great fried fish lol. My upbringing is very lutheran/agnostic so I kinda forgot about Catholics

The brunch I wanted to attend today served fish. Unfortunately my guts were unsettled so I popped in but didn't eat.

[–] SpaceDogs@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 1 month ago

Portuguese (my family) people do lol

[–] deathtoreddit@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 1 month ago

Yum, maybe make it into some gefilte fish, yim yum.

[–] Munrock@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 1 month ago

If you want to check if a fish is Russian, get it to count up to 5 with its hands and see which fingers it uses to show '3'.

Saw that in a war movie.

But at what cost?
