Why the fuck is that so hard and unsustainable. I want to eat and afford rent and organize an archive of knowledge. I want a horde that I get to share with people. I want curious individuals to come to me and ask me to direct them to the knowledge they seek. I want to read and read and read and get lost in my ivory tower. Is that so bad? Is there no plcae in our society for this? It's so fucking frustrating to receive nothing in response to a job application. I guess I will teach instead of being the esoteric librarian I crave being. Why did I have to be born into a working class family at a time when archivists are becoming obsolete. It's such bullshit. I just want to preserve the knowledge I love and pass it on to similarly interested people.

Not sure if there was ever really a golden age of archives and libraries to look back at. Modern libraries are a product of so-called philanthropy ala Carnegie et al. The takeover by lefty nerds in urban areas has always been tenuous at best.

If you have the energy, there are all kinds of unpaid spots in small, niche archives that have no funding or not enough funding to do all the work that needs done.

But yeah I understood my teachers a lot better when I became an adult and realized 90% of teachers are people who wanted to do something else but realized too late it was unrealistic. "Well, there's always teaching." I have it on good authority you can get suuuuper drunk through all of teacher's college and still pass.

I thankfully have the energy and will be taking volunteer spots as soon as I have the location. Regardless my goal is to be a teacher, i just wish real archival played into it more. I am super drunk rn and getting a history degree before I get my teaching cert and start working. Gonna be awful in so many ways but we cannot abandon our youth

it's a lean time now, we only get the fat when we fight and win or fight and lose with concessions.
